Twenty more maritime companies came together to sign the Maritime Singapore Green Pledge to signify their commitment towards promoting clean and green shipping in Singapore. They join the 40 companies that have already signed the Green Pledge so far. The signing took place during the Singapore Registry of Ships Forum on "Responsible Shipping" and was witnessed by Lam Yi Young, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The 20 new signatories of the Green Pledge are listed in Annex A and include shipping lines, salvage companies and offshore service providers. A total of 60 organizations have signed the Green Pledge and pledged their commitment to promote clean and green shipping in Singapore.

To harmonise the procedures related to liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering in order to facilitate the acceptance of LNG bunker for shipping. To exchange information on matters related to LNG as a shipping fuel, such as LNG infrastructure, communication to stakeholders, accreditation of bunkering operators. To exchange information pertaining to bunkering procedures and regulatory framework. To identify common areas of interests to set up joint research and development programmes.

An IMO symposium on a Sustainable Maritime Transportation System, held on world Maritime Day (September 26, 2013), provided an opportunity for a discussion on a global agenda for a sustainable maritime transportation system. The symposium reflected the world Maritime Day theme: “Sustainable Development: IMO's contribution beyond Rio+20”. IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu told the symposium that shipping, and port industries were vital links in the global supply chain, the complex mechanism without which today’s inter-dependent, global economy would be simply unable to function.

 productivity and manpower development. The new initiatives were announced by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, at the recent opening of the Sea Asia Exhibition and Conference, held in conjunction with the concurrant Singapore Maritime Week 2013. "Maritime is an important part of Singapore and contributes some 7% of Singapore's GDP. MPA is committed to working in partnership with the industry and institutes of higher learning (IHLs) in developing Maritime Singapore and are pleased to work with the industry and IHLs on the new initiatives and investments in maritime R&D, productivity and manpower development," said Mr Lam Yi Young, Chief Executive of MPA.

Keppel FELS is delivering its first rig of 2013, 'Dynamic Vision', to Dynamic Offshore subsidiary Vision Drilling. The KFELS B Class jackup rig, Dynamic Vision, is the first of the 20 offshore rigs that Keppel FELS is expected to deliver in 2013 and will be delivered almost two months ahead of schedule (with a perfect safety record), to garner an early delivery bonus of about US$ 1 million. Built and optimised to meet the unique environmental requirements of India, Dynamic Vision is capable of operating in water depths of 350 feet and drilling down to 30,000 feet. Keppel's advanced and fully-automated high capacity rack and pinion elevating system and self-positioning fixation system have been incorporated into the design.

The new interactive gallery was developed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) at a cost of $5 million. The Singapore Maritime Gallery was officially opened by Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Transport. Housed on the second storey of Marina South Pier, and occupying a total floor space of approximately 1,000 square metres, the Gallery showcases the diversity and vibrancy of Singapore's maritime industry. Singapore has long been associated with the sea and maritime trade, with its strategic position at the crossroads of East-West seaborne trade routes.

SINGAPORE: 12 APRIL, 2011 - NOL Group today announced a maritime milestone: its vessels will become the first to use cleaner-burning, low-sulphur gas oil in Singapore. The decision is expected to curb sulphur oxides emissions from ships by almost 90%. Sulphur oxides are considered a key component of acid rain. Ash and particulate matter emissions could be reduced by 80% to 90%. "We are proud to be the first container shipping line to convert to cleaner-burning fuel here," said Eng Aik Meng, President of APL, the NOL Group's shipping line.

Around 200 professionals from the shipping, logistics and liquefied natural gas development sectors converged on Singapore today to take part in the Sustainable Marine Transportation Conference organised by the Norwegian Embassy in Singapore and partners Innovation Norway and the Norwegian Business Association in Singapore. The global shipping industry’s carbon footprint has come under increasing scrutiny from governments, lobbyists and environmental protection agencies in recent times.
