The Landing School Names Schuhmann President

The Landing School’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that it has named the 4th President of the Landing School. Richard J. Schuhmann, Ph.D., a former student at The Landing School and currently a Senior Lecturer and Program Manager at MIT, will begin as The Landing School’s next President on September 1, 2014. After an exhaustive search, Dr. Schuhmann was appointed on the unanimous recommendation of the Board of Trustees. He will succeed Bob DeColfmacker, who intends to retire while continuing to advise the school on strategy and major Projects. Dr.

Landing School Receives Excellence Award

The Landing School announced that it has been selected as a recipient of a School of Excellence Award from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Landing School Develops Women’s Program

The Landing School, a post-secondary institution focused on educating tomorrow’s marine industry professionals, announced the development of a community program, the Women in the Marine Industry Initiative. Developed by The Landing School, the intent of this initiative is to support women who are in or wish to join the marine industry in Maine and beyond. The primary goal of the program is to inspire, educate and lead women to a fulfilling and successful career in the marine industry with confidence and pride.

Bristol Harbor Group Continues Expansion

Over the past six months the company has welcomed four new additions to the team: Annie Fisher, Naval Architect; Nathan Seelig, Mechanical Engineer; Christopher Cluett, Naval Architect; and Rhea Levin, Administrative Assistant. Landing School Receives Grant from Collectors Foundation

The Landing School, a post-secondary institution focused on educating tomorrow's marine industry professionals, announced they have received a grant from the Collectors Foundation, an educational grant-making organization founded by Hagerty Insurance and funded by classic vehicle and boat enthusiasts. The Landing School first received grant money from the Collectors Foundation in 2005. Since then, the Foundation has granted $50,000 to The Landing School, which in turn has helped 50 students achieve their goal of attaining a diploma or associate degree through The Landing School. Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) Welcome Mike Wood, PE and Matthew Roddy

Mike will serve as Senior Naval Architect in EBDG's New Orleans office and brings over 13 years of naval architecture and marine engineering expertise to the firm. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Louisiana with a diverse background in all aspects of marine vessel construction. He holds an MBA and a BS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of New Orleans. Matthew joins EBDG in Seattle as a Marine Designer. He brings over four years of vessel design experience to EBDG's designer group.

Seakeeper Welcomes New Regional Sales Manager

Expanding its national sales force, Seakeeper named Brook Streit as regional sales manager for North America. Streit will be responsible for generating business in the recreational market. "Brook's great contacts and extensive industry knowledge will help us as we focus on the refit market over the upcoming months," said John Kermet, Seakeeper VP of sales and marketing. Streit formerly served as sales manager for Derecktor Shipyards in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In that position he generated sales leads for power and sailing yachts.

Huntingford, Davenport Join Capilano Maritime

Capilano Maritime Design Ltd., a naval architecture design firm based in North Vancouver, BC, Canada announced that John Huntingford has recently joined the firm as Senior Structural Designer. Huntingford gained experience in the maritime industry as an Outfit Designer for Kvaerner Masa Marine where he worked on design projects for the State of Maine and Alaska, as well as patrol vessels for Australia. He graduated from the Landing School of Boat Building and Yacht Design in Maine, USA and has most recently worked as a Designer and Technical Liaison for Vancouver Shipyards Ltd.
