Lauritzen Adds Three Secondhand Bulk Carriers

Lauritzen Bulkers announced it has taken full ownership of three additional secondhand bulk carrier vessels in the month of August.The three geared capesizes were built between 2015 and 2017.Asian Bulker is a handysize built in 2017 with a summer DWT of 36,169 mt, taken over by Lauritzen Bulkers on August 14.Australian Bulker is a handysize also built in 2017 with a summer DWT of 36,184 mt, taken over by Lauritzen Bulkers on August 16.Iceland Bulker (previously Glorious Mahuta) is another handysize vessel with a summer DWT of 37,775 mt and was taken over on August 24.

Worker Dies Aboard Vessel at Aberdeen's South Harbor

A worker has died as a result of injuries suffered on board a vessel docked at Aberdeen's south harbor.The Port of Aberdeen and local authorities said the worker died on scene following an onboard incident at Dunnottar Quay on Saturday."Around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, police were called to Dunnottar Quay, Aberdeen South Harbor, in Aberdeen after a report that a man had been seriously injured whilst working on a ship docked at the site," a Police Scotland spokesperson said. "Emergency services attended but the man died at the scene.

J. Lauritzen Orders Two Methanol Dual-fuel Bulk Carriers

Danish shipping company J. Lauritzen said it signed letter of intent for construction of minimum two methanol dual-fuel 81,200 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carriers, which will be built by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, Japan, and be capable of trading with zero carbon emissions when powered by green methanol, and biodiesel.The vessels will be among the very first zero emission capable bulk carriers in the world, and they will be fully owned by a newly established entity named “Lauritzen NexGen Shipping” which J.

Danish shipowner Lauritzen Bulkers said it has taken over the bulk carrier Chilean Bulker on October 29, 2022.It is a 39,500 mt dwat, box/open hatch handysize bulk carrier built at China's Jiangmen Nanyang Ship Engineering Co. Lauritzen & Namura Sign Newbuilding Contract

Lauritzen Bulkers and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Japan have signed contracts for building at Hakodate of two bulk carriers at a signing ceremony in Copenhagen on 10 June 2014. The deal consists of two 34,000 dwt eco design handysize bulk carriers for delivery in 2017. "The newbuilding contract not only confirms our strategy to maintain and develop our solid position in the handysize segment but also our very strong relations with Namura Shipbuilding and Hakodate Docks", says Peter Borup, president of Lauritzen Bulkers. Lauritzen Bulkers combined order program comprises six wholly-owned and two part-owned vessels as well as 16 long-term time-chartered newbuildings for delivery in 2014-17.

Big Ships Can Lose Big Money on Pumps

A  project by pump maufacturer Grundfos aboard a Lauritzen Bulkers cargo ship shows that large vessels could be losing money on wasted energy. The project, carried out on the 19,889-ton Durban Bulker, focused on efficiency in shipÂ’s pumps. The Durban Bulker project focused on the energy used in cooling off the shipÂ’s engines. A Grundfos project aboard a Lauritzen Bulkers cargo ship shows that large vessels could be losing money on wasted energy. A pilot project between Grundfos and Danish shipping operator Lauritzen Bulkers shows that better technology and a sharp focus on pump efficiency can mean big savings on the bottom line. The project, carried out on the 19,889-ton Durban Bulker, focused on efficiency in ship’s pumps. “Ships often use oversized pumps that consume too much power,” says Kim Kirkegaard, Business Development Manager at Grundfos. The project paid off.

Graig Takes Delivery of First of Handysize Pair

Cardiff-based Graig Group has taken delivery of the 35,000 dwt handysize bulk carrier Graig Cardiff, the first of two Seahorse 35 class vessels building for Graig and partners at Jiangdong Shipyard, Wu Hu, China. The Graig Cardiff is entered into the Lauritzen Bulkers pool and is currently on her maiden voyage from Shanghai to Argentina. Her sister vessel, the Graig Rotterdam, is due for delivery later this year. Both vessels have been constructed under the supervision of Graig China Limited and will be managed by Graig's ship management divisions in Cardiff and Shanghai.
