Chinese State Shipping Giant COSCO Holds Stake in Bank of Kunlun

Chinese state-run shipping giant COSCO Shipping Development Co said on Tuesday that it holds a 3.74% stake in Bank of Kunlun, which has acted as a key official channel for money flows between China and Iran.The statement was made by the shipping firm on the e-interview platform of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, in response to an investor question on whether it held a stake in the bank.COSCO did not elaborate on when it acquired its holding, although the bank had disclosed the shipping firms stake in its 2019 annual report.COSCO’s comments come days after China and Iran, both subject to U.S.

The U.S. Coast Guard response continues to the grounding of the 308-foot Chinese-flagged commercial fishing carrier Ou Ya Leng No. 6 on Taka Atoll in the Marshall Islands, Wednesday.A Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules crew arrived and made contact with the mariners who remain aboard the vessel and are awaiting rescue.Initial reports from MRCC China stated the crew abandoned ship and were on the atoll, but upon arrival, the Hercules crew confirmed they are aboard the vessel and using emergency generator power.

Keppel hands over Runcorn Energy-from-Waste Facility Phase 2

Keppel Seghers Belgium N.V. and Keppel Seghers UK Limited (collectively, Keppel Seghers) have handed over Phase 2 of the Runcorn Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facility, in the UK, to the client. Runcorn EfW comprises two phases of equal capacity. Phase 1 is owned by INEOS Runcorn (TPS) Limited (TPSCo), a joint venture between INEOS, Viridor and John Laing. Phase 2 is owned by Viridor EfW (Runcorn) Limited, a special purpose vehicle owned by Viridor Waste Management Limited. Keppel Seghers handed over Phase 2 to the client on 24 April 2015 after successfully completing a 30-day reliability test. Earlier this year on 18 January 2015, Phase 1 was completed and was handed over. Both phases are operated by Viridor.

HSL Set to Increase Productivity

The young Singapore marine and offshore engineering industry will soon get another boost of its market share and dominance in the region with HSL Constructor Pte Ltd’s (HSL) latest addition to its fleet of marine vessels. Singapore-based Otto Marine sells Work Maintenance Vessel 'Oranda 1' for US$38.0-million, simultaneously bareboat-chartered back for GofM work. The sales transaction sets to improve the Group’s cash flow and balance sheet. Oranda 1, of LOA 75 m  is an ABS-classed 4,200bhp Work Maintenance Vessel that has completed 4 projects in South East Asia since May 2010. Contemporaneous with the sales transaction, the Group’s subsidiary, Karp Marine Limited, has bareboat chartered back the vessel for a period of 5 years.

Tata Steel’s New OPC Reduces Renewable Energy Costs

Tata Steel today inaugurated its new £2 million offshore processing centre (OPC) at an event in Hartlepool attended by more than 40 leading business figures from the European renewable energy sector. Following a presentation at Hartlepool College of Further Education, guests were shown round the company’s new centre, a high-productivity processing facility that will produce welded tubular assemblies to be used in the fabrication of jacket foundations for offshore wind turbines. They also visited Tata Steel’s 42-inch tube mill, one of three tube mills located at the company’s Hartlepool site.

Deck Cargo Barge for SE Asian Routes

The Hangzhou Dongfeng Shipbuilding yard is busy with multiple projects in their yard. In addition to a series of patrol vessels they are building a number of coastal ships and barges. Established in 1978 the yard covers an area of 70,000 square meters and is fronted by 400 meters of deep-water pier face. Facilities and equipment includes a 140 by 38-meter slipway, a 100-ton crane, plasma numerical controlled cutting machine, submerged arc automatic welding machinery, 160 ton hydraulic pressure and a 20-inch pipe bending machine in addition to plate bending machines. The yard can build vessels up to 20,000 DWT. The shipyard has built a wide range of vessels to class from container and bulk cargo ships to tugs and hovercraft.

Three Tankers Purchased

Unknown Italian buyers recently purchased three 1979 Japanese-built tankers for a total of $5.9 million. The vessels acquired by the Italians were the Sarpindo Palapa (16,370-dwt), the Sarpindo Primuda (16,319-dwt) and the Sarpindo Pribumi (16,291-dwt). Another tanker sold was the 1986 German-built Leng (10,628-dwt) purchased by unidentified Danish buyers for $11.9 million. Unknown buyers purchased four Japanese-constructed bulk carriers for a total of $32 million. The vessels were the Ma Guan Hai (1984, 41,762-dwt), the Ma Long Hai (1984, 41,634-dwt), the Ma Quan Hai (1985, 41,634-dwt) and the Ma Shan Hai (1985, 41,634-dwt). Southern Steamship paid $18.5 million for the 1996 Japanese-built bulk carrier Oriental Nova (70…
