Pan Ocean Orders OCTOPUS-Onboard for Heavy Lift Vessels
The Korean based global shipping company Pan Ocean, has ordered OCTOPUS-Onboard system from Amarcon for two semi-submersible heavy lift vessels. The state-of-the-art ship monitoring and advisory system will support the vesselsâ route planning, optimization of speed, heading and fuel consumption. For the two semi-submerging heavy lift vessels, the Sun Rise and the Sun Shine, Amarcon will deliver an OCTOPUS-Onboard installation including motion monitoring and forecasting. The system will increase workability and safety during heavy lift transportation projects.

The Dutch weather routing software supplier Meteo Consult and Amarcon, have received an order from Maersk Line to equip a minimum of 110 Maersk Line container vessels with SPOS Seakeeping. The Seakeeping plug-in is a feature within Meteo Consults weather routing software SPOS. With this plug-in the user can define vessel loading conditions and motion threshold values based on the input of Amarconâs OCTOPUS-Onboard. Amarcon Receives Orders For Two Octopus-Onboard Systems
Amarcon, a member of the ABB group, announced that it has received an order for two Octopus-Onboard motion monitoring systems for Heavy freight cargo vessels KOREX SPB no.1 & 2 from CJ Korea Express. CJ Korea Express is a result of the merger between Korea Express and CJ GLS. With a head-office in Seoul, the company is providing differentiated logistic services across the globe. The company is South-Koreaâs largest total cargo delivery company, providing services as contract logistics, forwarding, stevedoring and international express.
LNG Sloshing Prevention Technology
Amarcon and GTT to develop technology that enhances the quality of sloshing measurement & prediction for LNG carriers. Amarcon, a member of the ABB group, has signed a cooperation agreement with GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz) to market and further develop a forecasting and advice software system for sloshing prevention onboard LNG carriers. Sloshing prevention is an advanced module within Amarconâs OCTOPUS advisory software suite that will forecast and advise the crew on the optimum route to take in order to achieve time savings while preventing the risk for sloshing.
OCTOPUS-Onboard for Dockwise Vanguard
Amarcon, a member of the ABB group, received an OCTOPUS-Onboard order for the new build Dockwise Vanguard. This vessel is one of the largest and most advanced heavy lift vessel ever built. The vessel was launched in November 2012 and is currently undergoing sea trials. Dockwise was founded in 1993 as a merger between Wijsmuller Transport and Dock Express Shipping, making Dockwise the worldâs largest and most versatile heavy transport shipping company. ABB Acquires Amarcon
ABB has agreed to acquire Amarcon BV, a Dutch company that develops and markets software solutions for the shipping industry. The acquisition will expand ABBâs advisory systems offering for customers in the maritime sectors. The transaction is expected to be closed in the third quarter of 2012. Based in Dalfsen, The Netherlands, Amarcon employs 15 people. Amarconâs product portfolio provides software solutions for ships that focus on safety and improved operational ability. This addition to ABBâs portfolio will enhance the recently released offering of Marine Advisory Systems. Amarcon will join ABBâs Process Automation Division. As energy cost, emissions and ship safety become increasingly important on ships, the need for advisory systems will grow.
Amarcon Receives Subsea 7 Order
The seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services contractor to the offshore energy industry Subsea 7 has ordered the OCTOPUS suite of products for the recently delivered Pipelay/Heavy Lift vessel Seven Borealis. This latest addition to the Subsea 7 fleet is a state-of-the-art vessel that shall be involved in ultra-deep and deepwater projects in the worldâs deepest and harshest environments. Amarcon is appointed to deliver a motion monitoring and ship response forecast system, known in the industry as OCTOPUS-Onboard. The order for Subsea 7 is a very extensive one.
Interest in DP Capability Forecast Software Exceeds Amarconâs Expectations
In 2010 Amarconâs OCTOPUS-DP Capability forecast for efficient offshore DP operations was brought to the market. The OCTOPUS-DP functionality gives offshore vessels the possibility to make optimum use of a safe time window for their weather-sensitive operations. The first installation of the OCTOPUS-DP Capability forecast software was performed on the LNG Carriers Suez Neptune and Suez Cape Ann, in order to facilitate a safe time window so that the vessels LNG can safely be discharged. The OCTOPUS-DP functionality can not be compared with already existing Dynamic Positioning Systems.
