MacArtney completed its order of a launch and recovery (LARS) system for Taiwan National University, the fifth Ocean Research Vessel (ORV) in the Asia Pacific region to date. MacArtney Asia Pacific provided the full launch and recovery system solution for the new vessel R/V New Ocean Researcher 1 (ORV 1), including slip rings, cables and docking heads. The 1,000 GT RV was completed on July 21, 2020.Behind ORV 1 is the CSBC Corporation, which built the ship for end-user Taiwan National University. CSBC, owning two shipyards, is the largest shipbuilding company in Taiwan.

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Afai Southern Shipyard (Panyu Guangzhou) Ltd. to provide power and propulsion for a third Blue Sea Jet, fast ferry for the Zhuhai High-Speed Passenger Ferry Co., Ltd. The catamaran ferry, which will carry 288 passengers between Zhuhai and Hong Kong, will be driven by twin MTU 16V 4000M70 engines powering Rolls-Royce Kamewa S71-4 waterjets. The vessel is the company’s third in a series of Rolls-Royce powered catamarans to be commissioned, the first of which, Hai Qin, was delivered in February 2016.

China and Russia began week-long joint naval exercises in the South China Sea today. It is the  first-ever South China Sea iteration of Beijing and Moscow Joint Sea exercises. The Joint Sea-2016 exercises between the two countries will involve surface ships, submarines, fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and amphibious vehicles, according to a Defense Ministry statement issued Sunday. The exercises will conclude on September 19. The navies jointly launched eight days of war games, in a sign of growing cooperation between their armed forces against the backdrop of regional territorial disputes. As the shipping market continues its prolonged downturn five shipyards have filed for bankruptcy this year, reports SCMP. China's leading private shipyards are gasping while watching their smaller rivals collapse one after another in an industry where state firms are increasingly raising the stakes. Simon Liang, the chairman of Jiangsu-based Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group said that the environment for private companies has never been supportive, but it has taken a turn for the worse recently. Surpassing Japan and South Korea by exported tonnage, China rose to become the world’s top shipbuilding nation during the last trade boom. The triumph came at the expense of relentless, and often inferior, capacity expansion, especially in the private sector.

The Chinese navy played down recent military drills in the South China Sea and criticised other countries for "illegally" occupying islands in the area, the official Xinhua news service reported on Saturday. China has launched a naval drill in waters to the east of Hainan island, a largely unpopulated region of reefs and shoals in which a number of countries maintain contradictory and overlapping territorial claims. "Holding sea drills is a common practice for navies with various countries. The annual drill by the Chinese navy aims to test the troops' real combat abilities, boost their manoeuvrability, search and rescue power and the abilities to fulfil diversified military missions," Xinhua quoted Chinese navy spokesperson Liang Yang saying.

The second stage of Russia-China "Joint Sea 2015" maritime exercises are taking place on June 8-11 in Russia’s Far Eastern Primorsky Territory, according to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry’s Eastern Military District press service. The joint exercise will include troop landing practices and reconnaissance missions. "As part of the upcoming joint Russian-Chinese naval drills, Joint Sea 2015 [II] at the firing range at Cape Klerk the airborne and amphibious landing will be practiced," Pacific Fleet’s spokesman Captain 1st Rank Roman Martov said. On April 28, 2015, Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (SINOPACIFIC) held a christening and delivery ceremony for a newly built SPA150 AHTS, constructed for shipowner FEMCO Group. This first SPA150 vessel is not only the first of this design to be delivered in the world, but is also the first of a series of four vessels contracted by FEMCO Group. Representatives from the Government, banks, shipowner, classification society, supervisors, suppliers, brokers and media, as well as other related parties, were present at SINOPACIFIC’s Zhejiang Shipbuilding base and witnessed this rather memorable moment.

An IMR GPA696 was recently christened and delivered at Dayang Shipbuilding Co. on October 15, 2014, a significant milestone in that the ship is the 200th ship built since the company was founded 10 years ago. Hsin-Chi Su, Chairman and CEO of Today Makes Tomorrow Group (TMT) launched a suit in Texas federal court on July 28, 2014, alleging that a planned bankruptcy sale of three company ships, including M.V.D Whale, M.V.G Whale and M.V.H Whale, to Mega International Commercial Bank Co. Ltd. (Mega Bank) will strip him of intellectual property worth more than $100 million for each ship. Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (SINOPACIFIC) has recently signed a contract with Singaporean company Vallianz Holdings Limited (Vallianz) for the construction of 4 SPA60 vessels. The vessels will be built in SINOPACIFIC’s Zhejiang Shipyard and all of them are expected to be delivered from the end of 2014 to the beginning of 2015. It is the first order SINOPACIFIC has gained from the Southeast Asian market for its in-house “SP-design”, which is a testimony to the steadily increasing reputation of the “SP-designed” vessel in the industry. SINOPACIFIC is currently one of the few Chinese shipbuilding enterprises that have independent design capabilities from conceptual design through to production.

Classification society ClassNK announced that it has issued the world’s second Statement of Compliance to Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Marine Service Co., Ltd., confirming that it is in compliance with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009. T&T Salvage recruited three salvage professionals, Lee Hiok Liang, Alex Ang Yew Boon, and Hussain Shah, for its Singapore base. Lee Hiok Liang joins as a naval architect from a diverse background of twenty years of experience in the marine industry. Lee joins from Royal Boskalis, where he was a Senior Project Engineer. In this role he was actively involved in the construction of new dredging vessels, modification and upgrade supervision to ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.

The Korean government to honor Singaporean shipping company owner for his efforts to successfully rescue Korean sailors from Somali pirates. Four South Korean crew members were kidnapped by Somali pirates on April 30, 2011 aboard the MT Gemini, a tanker operated by Singapore-based Glory Ship Management, and after 582 days of captivity, they were set free after the firm paid an unspecified amount of ransom. ClassNK  has announced  that it has issued the world’s first Statement of Compliance (SOC) for a ship recycling facility to Jiangmen Zhongxin Shipbreaking & Steel Co., Ltd. The Statement of Compliance issued by ClassNK certifies that the facility and its recycling procedures are fully in compliance with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009 (Hong Kong Convention). This marks the first time that a ship recycling yard has achieved certification in line with the convention.

Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group secured an order for 4+2 Crown 63 (63,500 DWT) Supramax bulk carriers from a foreign ship owner on October 8. The Crown 63 is a new generation bulk carrier which is self designed by Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group. The SINOPACIFIC Shipbuilding Group signed a newbuilding contract of 4 SPP35 platform supply vessels (PSV) and a Letter of Intention of 2 large SPP50 PSVs with SLOK Nigeria Ltd. The six vessels are scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2014. This marks the first time that independently designed offshore supply vessel (OSV) products of SINOPACIFIC direct selling to the African market, signifying the growing maturity and acceptance of the SP brand within the market. Chinese Maritime Safety Administration ship 'Haixun 31' to be hosted by US 14th Coast Guard District in Honolulu Harbor. The Haixun 31 will be escorted into Aloha Tower is to be met 4, September 2012,  by a parade of ships that will include the Coast Guard Cutter Galveston Island and the Honolulu Fire Department fireboat Moku Ahi. The Coast Guard and Chinese Maritime Safety Administration are scheduled to conduct a joint search and rescue table top exercise and on water exercise in Honolulu.
