Capital Liberty Acquires Two Vessels

Capital Liberty Invest, a joint venture between Greece’s Capital Ship Management, belonging to Evangelos Marinakis, and Germany’s Liberty One, has acquired its first two high specification feeder container vessels.The vessels which will come under the technical management of Liberty Blue in Leer, Germany, said a press release from Capital Ship Management Corp.The first of the two sister ships, ‘Ibrahim Dede’ (1,878 TEU), which was renamed ‘Asterix’, has been successfully taken over on January 21 in the port of Piraeus, Greece and subsequently delivered into charter to one of the world’s leading container operators.The takeover of the second vessel, ‘Cafer Dede’, is expected at the end of the first quarter of 2018.

Capital Ship Management, Liberty One Form JV

Capital Ship Management Corp. and Liberty One have announced the establishment of a joint venture under the name Capital Liberty Invest, taking aim at the German shipping market. The new entity will combine the forces, excellent track record and reputation of Capital and Liberty with the aim to provide commercial and technical ship operating platforms across different shipping segments and sizes in the German shipping market. The Joint Venture will seek growth opportunities in the container segment, ranging from feeder to Post-Panamax vessels, as well as in the crude and product tanker, dry bulk and multi-purpose vessels (MPP) segments. The Joint Venture commenced operations in January 2018 and is based out of the Liberty offices in Leer and headed by Liberty CEO, Dietrich Schulz.

NASSCO Lays Keel for Jones Act Tanker Liberty

U.S. shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO hosted a keel laying ceremony on Thursday, May 26 for the Liberty, one of three new ECO Class Jones Act tankers under a construction contract with SEA-Vista LLC, a partnership between SEACOR Holdings, Inc. and Avista Capital Partners. Construction on the Liberty began at NASSCO’s San Diego shipyard in October 2015. Once completed, the vessel will be a 610-foot, 50,000 deadweight-ton, LNG-conversion-ready product tanker with a 330,000 barrel cargo capacity, operated by Seabulk Tankers, Inc.

Thomas Miller Awards Robin Travis Scholarship

The UK P&I Club one of the leading shipping protection and indemnity mutual insurers,  has awarded Tobias Rennekamp the  Robin Travis Scholar for 2015. Tobias will spend three months in the Thomas Miller London office and the offices of selected lawyers, surveyors, insurance brokers and other shipping, transport and insurance businesses. Tobias is currently an Assistant Operations Officer at Liberty One Shipmanagement GmbH & Co KG in Bremen and is actively involved in all aspects of managing its fleet of handy size bulk carriers. The Robin Travis Scholarship programme is tailored to provide both a practical and theoretical knowledge and experience and to build on the Scholar’s commercial experience.

Carisbrooke Fleet Adds 8 General Cargo Ships

Carisbrooke Shipping has added eight 8,000 dwt general cargo vessels to its commercially-managed fleet. The vessels, TIP Oslo, TIP Copenhagen, TIP Helsinki, TIP Bremen, TIP Stockholm, TIP Leer, TIP Emden and Cremona, vessels were built between 2003 and 2005, with the TIP fleet offering ICE Class 1A flexibility, and mix of both single and tween-deck, geared and gearless vessels. DNV GL Certifies Liberty One

Classification society DNV GL has certified Liberty One under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 for its quality and environment management system. Matthias Ritters, DNV GL Regional Manager Germany, presented the certificates in Bremen to Dietrich Schulz, owner and Managing Director of Liberty One, along with Capt. Jan Stahmer, responsible for health and safety, environment and quality. “This is a milestone in the ongoing development of the company against a testing commercial background,” said Dietrich Schulz. “We are all about protecting life and the environment, and are therefore delighted that our efforts should have received this independent endorsement from DNV GL. Along with Liberty One, Handelshaus Bremen also received certification under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

California Fines 4 Shipping Firms

The California Air Resources Board has fined four shipping companies a combined $146,719 for failing to switch from dirty diesel “bunker” fuel to cleaner, low-sulfur marine distillate fuel upon entering Regulated California Waters – within 24 nautical miles of the California coast. “State anti-pollution laws require shippers to do their part to protect air quality,” said ARB Enforcement Chief Jim Ryden. “Shippers who comply are helping to protect the health of those who live, work, and go to schools near ports and shipping lanes. Many Californians don’t realize that diesel soot and other pollutants can also travel far inland to impact communities nowhere near the sea.

INTERSCHALT Awarded Fleet Maintenance Contract

Shipping company Liberty One, already subscribed to INTERSCHALT's maintenance software package, decided to establish a full maintenance contract covering all navigation and communications systems on board including the VDR. After six months, say INTERSCHALT, the Bremen-based shipping company is seeing positive results. As part of its Shore-based Maintenance (SBM) contract INTERSCHALT provides all inspection and maintenance work as well as parts and parts procurement at an annually agreed fixed price.
