MacGregor to Supply RoRo Equipment for Sallaum Lines' LNG PCTC Vessel Duo

Marine equipment firm MacGregor, part of Cargotec, said Thursday it had won a large order for RoRo equipment packages for two dual-fuel LNG Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) vessels. The PCTC vessels will be built at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Ltd. for Sallaum Lines. MacGregor to Deliver RoRo Equipment for Four New Höegh Autoliners’ PCTCs

Cargotec's MacGregor has won a deal to deliver comprehensive packages of RoRo equipment for an additional four Aurora class Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs). The vessels will be multi-fuel and zero-carbon ready, and the order will extend Höegh Autoliners’ Aurora class newbuilding program to eight vessels, all of which will be built by China Merchant Heavy Industries (Jiangsu) Co.,  Ltd.The order for MacGregor's scope, valued at more than $15 million, was booked into Cargotec’s 2022 second-quarter orders received.

MacGregor Wins Supply Contract for Four Höegh Autoliners PCTCs

Supersizing Car Carriers

Similar to container vessels, bulk carriers and cruise ships, car carriers are rapidly growing in size, says a report by DNV GL. A new series of the world’s largest pure car and truck carriers sets a new standard for this segment. The final two vessels in a series of six New Horizon Class pure car and truck carriers (PCTC) were delivered on schedule at the Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry yard in September and December 2016, respectively. Ordered by Norwegian shipping company Höegh Autoliners, the New Horizon Class vessels have a carrying capacity of 8,500 units, and are able to accommodate nearly 15 per cent more cars than ships of same size and type. The 200 m long and 36.5 m wide vessels have a deck area of 71,400 m2, divided over 14 decks.

Wärtsilä EGC Gets First Flag Approval in Asia

The Singapore flag state authorities have approved Wärtsilä's exhaust gas cleaning (EGC) systems, making it the first EGC to be approved by an Asian flag authority. The approvals relate to Wärtsilä EGC systems ordered for two new RoRo vessels owned by a Japanese shipowner and currently being operated by Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, the privately owned Swedish/Norwegian shipping company. The ships entered into service this year. The International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Marpol Annex VI regulations are aimed at reducing air pollution levels from ships by reducing the sulphur oxide (SOx) content of the vessel's engine emissions. The limits came into effect for ships operating inside Emission Control Areas with effect from January 2015.

Hueneme Welcomes Its First Post-Panamax Ship

Port of Hueneme’s first Post-Panamax ship was greeted by Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines (WWL) company leaders and Port officials during an occasion marking a paradigm shift in how the widened Panama Canal will bring a new class of vessels to the Port of Hueneme. This maiden voyage of the M/V Thalatta marks a new milestone to support the Port’s and its industry partners’ agenda. Thalatta is one of the newest high efficiency Roll on Roll off (RoRo) HERO class vessels designed to increase capacity and flexibility while reducing emissions.

WWL Adds MV Themis to its Fleet

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics’ (WWL) has added MV Themis, fourth Neo-Panamax class vessel, to its fleet. 50% of the company’s newbuilding order now complete. Like her sister vessels, Theben, Thalatta and Thermopylae, Themis is almost 200 metres long, 36.5 metres wide and features five liftable car decks, allowing for multiple configurations and a wide variety of customer cargo. The vessel can transport up to 8,000 car equivalent units. With the new draft, she can call ports with shallower depths, increasing her geographical scope of service. With the launch of Themis, WWL is now half way into the newbuilding order totalling eight new RoRo vessels commencing service between 2015 and 2017.

Themis is Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics’ (WWL) fourth Neo-Panamax class vessel, which means it is built for the expanded Panama Canal inaugurated June 26. Like her sister vessels, Theben, Thalatta and Thermopylae, Themis is almost 200 meters long, 36.5 meters wide and features five liftable car decks, allowing for multiple configurations and a wide variety of customer cargo. The vessel can transport up to 8,000 car equivalent units. With the new draft, she can call ports with shallower depths, increasing her geographical scope of service.

Third Post Panamax RoRo Joins WWL Fleet

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) has introduced MV Theben, a brand new High Efficiency RoRo (HERO) class vessel, and third of eight new Post Panamax vessels to be launched from 2015-2017. MacGregor RoRo Access Systems for Grimaldi Car Carriers

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has been contracted by Chinese shipbuilding group Yangfan to deliver comprehensive RoRo access equipment packages for a series of five post-Panamax 7,800 CEU pure car/truck carriers (PCTCs). The vessels are under construction for Italian operator Grimaldi Group, with options for seven more. The 200m vessels will be among the world's largest car carriers. They have been ordered as part of Grimaldi's fleet expansion and modernisation programme. Each MacGregor RoRo access equipment package will comprise a quarter ramp, side ramp, internal ramps, bulkhead doors and four levels of liftable car decks. The gross weight of the equipment is about 2,400 tonnes per ship.

WWL Launches Post Panamax Vessel

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics launched the first of its new generation of Post Panamax HERO (High Efficiency RoRo) PCTC vessels, M/V Thermopylae. The Thermopylae was built at the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries shipyard in Mokpo, South Korea, and her maiden voyage will be from Asia to Europe, starting in the port of Hitachinaka, Japan and finishing in Bremerhaven, Germany. The vessel is the first of eight HERO post panamax vessels that will commence service for WWL from 2015-2017. Measuring 199.99 m long and 36.5 m wide, Thermopylae features five liftable car decks, allowing for more configurations for cargo of various sizes and hence increased capacity for cars, trucks, equipment and breakbulk.

MacGREGOR Wins Contracts

Four deepsea ConRos under construction at Hyundai Mipo for French owner CMA CGM will benefit from liftable car decks from MacGREGOR. The MacGREGOR Group’s RoRo division – part of the Cargotec Corporation – has received a contract to design and fabricate RoRo equipment and electrically-driven liftable car decks onboard four deepsea ConRos. The vessels are being built at the Hyundai Mipo shipyard and are destined for French owner CMA CGM. The contract value exceeds €25 million. Each ConRo shipset will comprise around 1,300 tons of equipment including: one stern quarter ramp; a stern door; two ramp covers (crocodile type); one top-hinged front door; and two level liftable car decks including access ramps.
