Lightweight Composite Approved for Ship

For the first time, combustible, fibre-reinforced, lightweight composite has been approved for use in a SOLAS ship. Panama's flag authority has accepted a design where hatches in fibre-reinforced plastic composite replace steel hatches. Research and fire risk analyses at SP have helped in making this possible. Lightweight composites have a number of advantages compared with steel; among others, ships can be made lighter, which reduces fuel consumption and emissions, and there is no corrosion.

Custom Wireless Telemetry Mooring Link Load Cell from LCM

With a range of ex-stock bow shackle load cells, U.K. load cell manufacturer and supplier LCM Systems is able to offer next day delivery on its range of standard TELSHACK-B load cells. However, sometimes the off-the-shelf solution isn’t quite right for a customers’ specific application and it’s here where LCM’s in-house design team and extensive experience in customizing load cells gives LCM a competitive advantage. This happened recently when a multinational marine engineering company in Canada enquired about the TELSHACK-B load cell. They liked the principle of a wireless telemetry shackle, but wanted to measure ship docking tension on a winch.

Sunstream Releases Next Generation Boat Lift

Sunstream Boat Lifts has released the Sunstream V-Lift, the newest addition to its range of marina- friendly lifts. leak-resistant solution for most sport, ski, pontoon and fishing boats. The V-Lift employs a quad-blower and electric valve system to launch a vessel in 75 seconds and lift it in two  minutes, simply by pressing up or down buttons on its keychain-sized remote control. The lightweight solution operates in as little as three feet of water and is the first free-floating boatlift to fit into a 10-foot-wide (or larger) slip. The lift can also be side tied. Complementing Sunstream’s signature ‘dockwith-ease’ design, the new lift provides automatic centering and secure drive-on support.
