Lightweight Composite Approved for Ship
For the first time, combustible, fibre-reinforced, lightweight composite has been approved for use in a SOLAS ship. Panama's flag authority has accepted a design where hatches in fibre-reinforced plastic composite replace steel hatches. Research and fire risk analyses at SP have helped in making this possible. Lightweight composites have a number of advantages compared with steel; among others, ships can be made lighter, which reduces fuel consumption and emissions, and there is no corrosion.

Sunstream Releases Next Generation Boat Lift
Sunstream Boat Lifts has released the Sunstream V-Lift, the newest addition to its range of marina- friendly lifts. leak-resistant solution for most sport, ski, pontoon and fishing boats. The V-Lift employs a quad-blower and electric valve system to launch a vessel in 75 seconds and lift it in two minutes, simply by pressing up or down buttons on its keychain-sized remote control. The lightweight solution operates in as little as three feet of water and is the first free-floating boatlift to fit into a 10-foot-wide (or larger) slip. The lift can also be side tied.
