USS Abraham Lincoln Achieves Redelivery

The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) was redelivered to the fleet May 12, marking the successful completion of its refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) carried out at Newport News Shipyard. At sea for the first time since March 2014, the crew conducted rigorous tests of engineering components, the modernized combat systems suite and flight deck equipment that supports Lincoln's mission at sea. Damage control capabilities and basic deck seamanship were also checked to ensure both the ship and the crew's operational readiness. The ship marked its return to the fleet after four days of sea trials with high-speed maneuvers, that tested the ship's systems and crew.

Lincoln Heads to Sea Following Nine Months in Dry Dock

Over the course of the last nine months, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) underwent several alterations, upgrades and installments, culminating in thousands of man hours and millions of dollars during its Dry-dock Planned Incremental Availability (DPIA) at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash. As Lincoln headed back to sea, the DPIA came to a close on a high note June 26. “From a ship’s force work package perspective, the DPIA was a resounding success and greatly exceeded all expectations,” said Lt. Cmdr. Jim Pyle, Lincoln’s maintenance manager. The $260m overhaul and improvements to Lincoln were the combined effort of Lincoln’s Sailors and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Todd Pacific Shipyard, who were the primary contractors on the job.

NRD NW Holds Training Aboard Lincoln

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) hosted Sailors from Naval Recruiting District (NRD) Portland for the district’s Biannual Recruiter In Charge (RINC) Conference April 9-13. The conference provided recruiters from the region with an opportunity to meet and discuss important issues facing their community, as well as to receive training and meet other recruiters from the district. “This represents an opportunity to get all my frontline supervisors from five states together and have them interact and share ideas,” said NRD Portland’s commanding officer, Cmdr. Caroline Nielson. Chief Navy Counselor Steve Schaljo said that about 40 Sailors, including RINCs, supervising officers and guest lecturers attended the conference which was held in Lincoln’s squadron ready rooms.
