MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) contract with Norwegian Cruise Line extended 5 years. The contract is for VSAT communications, crew calling, Internet services, access to MTN Worldwide TV™ and related services around the globe. MTN will continue to provide its communications solutions to the entire Norwegian fleet, including its newest ships, Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway, launching in 2013 and 2014 respectively. WCC Sat Phones Aid Tsunami Relief Efforts

World Communication Center (WCC), a leading provider of global satellite voice and data communications, has provided nine satellite phones to assist Mercy Corps in its multi-country tsunami aid programs. WCC’s Iridium-based satellite communications solutions enable the field-based relief workers to communicate in areas left without cellular or land-line communications. “Mercy Corps has relied on WCC to provide satellite communications for relief and development efforts since 2002,” says Peter Dickinson, Director, Information Technology. “WCC is proud to support Mercy Corps in their distribution of life-saving aid to the tsunami survivors in possibly one of the largest relief efforts ever mobilized,” states Weldon Knape, CEO of WCC.

Marine Communications:Sending Screws, Pistons and Lube Oil via Satellite

At the Rudolf Schepers shipping line based in Elsfleth in the Oldenburg region, shipping is a business with traditions. While the owners' grandfather sailed on inland waterways, 50 years ago their capacity was expanded by the addition of some coastal motor vessels up to 150 tons. Since the 70s, the company's core competence has become the worldwide chartering of container ships to big shippers like Maersk or CSAV. The cargo space is made available and the ships have been subjected to technical refits and the crews increased. Together with the Heinrich Schepers company within the same line, the family concern now operates 12 container vessels of 1,100 to 2,500 TEU. "Our ships are everywhere. North and South America…South Africa…the Near East…the Caribbean.
