World’s First Ammonia-powered Containership Ordered

Yara Plans World’s First Ammonia-Powered Container Ship

Yara Clean Ammonia, North Sea Container Line, and Yara International have joined forces to realize the world's first container ship that will use clean ammonia as fuel. Named Yara Eyde, the vessel will be the first to sail emission-free sea route between Norway and Germany.Yara Eyde will operate between Oslo, Porsgrunn, Hamburg and Bremerhaven, so that from 2026, Norwegian companies can trade their products emissions-free in and out of Norway. Yara International is participating as cargo-owner.

Shell Wins Marine Lubricants Deal with Carnival

Shell Marine said it has been awarded a multi-year contract to provide marine lubricants to cruise line operator Carnival Corporation’s global fleet of 89 ships. Crew on TUI Cruise Ship Test Positive for Coronavirus

A cruise ship carrying about 920 passengers was expected to dock at Piraeus port near Athens, after 12 of its crew members tested positive for the coronavirus, an official at Greece's Civil Protection agency said on Monday.The Mein Shiff 6, operated by TUI Cruises, departed from Heraklion in Crete on Sunday with all passengers having tested negative before boarding.But sample tests on 150 crew members out of a total of 666, detected 12 infections. The ship's operators TUI Cruises said six of the 12 had since tested negative."They are all asymptomatic," the civil protection official said.

Finnish Shipyard wins Ship Deal from Royal Caribbean

Miami-based cruise line operator Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Meyer Turku shipyard signed a memorandum of agreement for two next generation cruise ship orders to be delivered in 2022 and 2024. The around 200,000 gross ton large cruise ships under the project name “Icon” will mark the beginning of a new generation of LNG powered cruise ships with a number of innovations such as an application of fuel cells for power generation. KT to Manage Massive Submarine Cable Network

Korean Telecommunications provider KT has been named the key operator of the world's largest submarine network cable, New Cross Pacific (NCP). Korea's dominant fixed-line operator said it will run a network center to control the submarine cable which helps connect network systems in Asia-Pacific countries to the North American region. The company said it will start operation of the 14,000-kilometer-long NCP cable in December 2017. The purpose of the NCP Project is to form a submarine cable network with a data processing capacity of about 80 Tbps across the Pacific Ocean. "KT will play a central role as a global traffic hub with a network operation center (NOC) in Busan," Korea Times quoted Oh Seong-mok, executive vice president of KT's network division, as saying.

CMA CGM profits up 43%

French container line operator CMA CGM has announced that its 2014 net consolidated profits rose by 43% over the previous year to USD584 million thanks to a growth in volume and significantly reduced costs. Consolidated operating revenue for the company increased by 5.3% in 2014, compared with the previous year, to $16.7bn on an 8.1% volume increase to 12.2m teu, which CMA CGM said was mainly attributable to east-west gains. Volumes carried rose by 8.1% year on year (y/y) to 12.2 million teu and revenues increased 5.3% to USD16.7 billion. SFL Acquires 7 Containerships with Long-term Charters

Ship Finance International Limited (SFL) announced that it has agreed to acquire seven 4,100 teu container vessels built in 2002 in combination with long-term charters to a leading container line operator. The vessels are expected to be delivered to SFL over the course of the next few weeks, and the annual EBITDA contribution is estimated to be approximately $10 million on average during the charter period. The charters include a purchase option with profit share after approximately 5.4 years on average. Ole B.
