Wärtsilä Propulsion Packages for China's New Rescue Vessels

Wärtsilä has been contracted by the People’s Republic of China’s Communications Import & Export Corporation to supply the main propulsion system for four new ocean rescue vessels. The ships are being built at the CSSC Guangzhou Huang-Pu Shipbuilding Company Ltd shipyard in China, and are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2014. The order was signed in the second quarter of 2013 and is part of a series of contracts covering a total of 22 vessels. Wärtsilä Waterjets Power World's Fastest Ferry

Wärtsilä's axial waterjets power the Francisco, claimed to be the world's fastest high-speed ferry and the first fast ferry to utilize liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel. The vessel has successfully passed its sea trials and is now ready to commence commercial operations. Wärtsilä has provided the waterjets for what is claimed to be the world's fastest high speed ferry. In addition to two of its LJX1720SR axial waterjets, Wärtsilä has also supplied an advanced propulsion control system for the Francisco.

Wärtsilä Wins Vietnam Order

Wärtsilä received an order for a propulsion package from Vietnam in September 2007. The contract was awarded by the Ben Kien Shipyard in Haiphong and involves the supply of a propulsion package for a 564 TEU multi-purpose carrier to be built for Hai Duong Shipbuilding & Shipping Company, both companies being subsidiaries of Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin Group). The vessel, designed by Marine Design & Research Institute of China, has a length of 115.0 m, and a moulded breadth of 20.8 m. The Wärtsilä propulsion package will comprise an eight-cylinder Wärtsilä 38 diesel engine, 4.40 m-diameter four-bladed controllable-pitch (CP) propeller, shafting, reduction gearbox, stern tube and shaft seals.
