Hartmann Reederei, the German ship-management company, has confirmed that two of its vessels – the 36,000 m3 LEG (liquefied ethylene gas) carriers Gaschem Beluga and Gaschem Orca – powered by the world’s first ME-GIE (-Gas Injection Ethane) two-stroke engines have collectively accumulated 10,000 hours of operations since entering operation at the end of 2017.The carriers were ordered by Hartmann and Ocean Yield of Norway, and constructed at Sinopacific Offshore Engineering (SOE)…

A new liquefied ethylene gas carrier (LEG) was named on Teesside today. Operated by German shipping company Hartmann Reederei and GasChem Services, the new eco-friendly sea vessel GasChem Beluga will carry shipments of ethane gas from Houston to SABIC’s cracker at Wilton on Teesside under a long-term time charter. SABIC recently converted its Teesside cracker during a major investment to enable it to take ethane gas alongside other feedstocks, to make it one of the most flexible and competitive crackers in Europe.

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) has completed the world’s first ME-GIE ethane-operated two-stroke diesel engine. The engines will be for propulsion of three ethylene carriers, which will also carry ethane as cargo. The Mitsui-MAN B&W 7G50ME-C9.5-GIE is the first engine in a series of three for installation in three LEG (liquefied ethylene gas) carriers of 36,000 m3 for Hartmann Schiffahrt of Germany and Ocean Yield of Norway, being built at Sinopacific Offshore Engineering (SOE) in China. MAN Diesel & Turbo reports that ethane was chosen as fuel, in preference to HFO, due to its more competitive pricing as well as the significantly shorter bunkering time it entails.

CIMC Enric, an affiliate company of China International Marine Containers (CIMC), has announced that it has terminated the acquisitions of Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE), the offshore unit of Sinopacific Shipbuilding. CIMC Enric said the Board decided not to proceed with the proposed acquisition of the entire equity interest of SinoPacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd. as certain conditions precedent have not been fulfilled or waived. Last year, CIMC  has struck a deal with Evergreen Holding and its subsidiaries to acquire Nantong SOE for at least CNY700 million (USD109 million) in cash and shares. In the meantime, the Board is considering various alternatives in protecting the rights and values of the Group's interests in the target company…

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, announced it has secured orders for a series of Pusnes deck machinery packages for several shipowners. The Pusnes equipment has been specified for different ship types that are going to be built by the Hyundai Group and Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, in South Korea. Bestobell Marine, part of the President Engineering Group (PEGL), has received an new order to supply its globe and check valves for Japan’s first high pressure fuel gas system that will be installed within a marine vessel. The order will see Bestobell Marine supply a number of its cryogenic globe and check valves to be installed in two sister ships being built by Imabari Shipbuilding Group in Japan for Elcano. Bestobell Marine’s valves are required for the carrier’s MAN ME-GI engines, where natural gas is injected into the engine at over 300bar pressure.

Wärtsilä  to supply complete dual-fue (DF) propulsion packages for two new gas tankers being built for owners, Anthony Veder. The contract was signed with AVIC-International Shanghai and Avic-Dingheng Shipbuilding Co. Ltd yard, for the two Liquefied Ethylene Gas (LEG)/Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tankers being built for Anthony Veder, the Netherlands-based shipping company specialised in gas transportation, for deployment in the North Sea. With the classification of the gas tanker MT Gaschem Nordsee, Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has passed the 80 million gross tons threshold. More than 6,870 ships are currently surveyed on a regular basis by Germanischer Lloyd. September 2007. The MT Gaschem Nordsee, flying the German flag, was delivered in late March by Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. The LPG (liquefied petroleum gas)/ethylene tanker is the first of four gas tankers of the same hull type to be built in Germany by 2010 by the Meyer shipyard and its sister firm Neptun Shipyard.
