Seoul Orders 140 LNG Ships

The Korean government will order 140 liquefied natural gas ships, worth 1 trillion won ($880 million), from the nation’s small and midsized shipbuilders by 2025, said Korea’s press agency Yonhap.South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said the government will provide shipbuilders and suppliers   1.7 trillion won ($1.5 billion) in financial aid to prop up the country’s ailing shipbuilding industry.The report quoted Yoon Sung-hyuck, chief of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s shipbuilding and offshore plant industry division as saying that, in order to set small and midsized shipbuilders apart from their rivals from China and Japan…

Spain's SENER will be present at the 15th edition of the Asia Pacific Maritime (APM) Exhibition, which will be held from March 14 to 16, 2018 at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. India Signs MoUs With Foreign Countries for Building Ships and Ports

(i) Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of India and  the Islamic Republic of Iran over partnership of India in development plan of Chabahar Port, signed on 06 May, 2015. (ii) Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Shipping of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea on Cooperation in the fields of Maritime Transport and Logistics, signed on 18 May, 2015. Scope of cooperation under the MoU, inter-alia, includes utilization, development and management of domestic and overseas ports. (iii) Agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Maritime Transport, singed on 11 October, 2015.

Olivier Named UK Club Chairman

Alan Olivier, the new Chairman and President of the UK P&I Club

Alan Olivier was elected Chairman and President of the UK P&I Club at their board meeting in Bermuda on October 28. He succeeds Dino Caroussis who has retired from the board. Mr. Olivier, 53, Chief Executive Officer of Grindrod Limited, became a Director of the UK Club in 2000 and a Deputy Chairman in 2006. Mr. Caroussis, 61, of Chios Navigation, had been the Club’s Chairman for the past five years, having joined the board in 1996 in the shipping division. He held senior treasury and financial positions before his appointment as chief executive of Unicorn Shipping in 1995.

Daewoo wins $1.1B LNG Orders

South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, the world's second-largest shipyard, said on Monday it has won orders worth $1.1 billion for four LNG (liquefied natural gas) ships. The company said in a filing to the Korea Stock Exchange Bergesen of Norway had placed an order for three LNG carriers, although did not give the buyer of the fourth ship.

Daewoo Wins $515M Contract

Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering reportedly has won a $515.8 million order from Teekay Shipping of Canada to build three LNG (liquefied natural gas) ships, with delivery due in April 2007.

MISC Orders LNG Carriers

Malaysian International Shipping Corp. is fortifying its position in the fast growing market for the carriage of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), today reportedly converting an option for two liquefied natural gas ships into firm orders, bringing total oustanding orders to six. MISC is already one of the world's largest LNG tanker operators, and it also also plans to buy four 6,800-TEU, post-Panamax containerships for delivery in 2002-2003. "We have ordered four new LNG ships...and two more ships are on option...(which) should be exercised by the end of this year," a company official reported. MISC has a fleet of 13 carriers with total lifting capacity of 1.35 million cu. m. They are part of MISC's total fleet of 124 ships.

Offshore LNG Gets OK for Project

Mass. environmental regulators have given a tentative ok to another proposed offshore LNG unloading buoy off of Gloucester, after getting about $23.5m in concessions to offset any damage to the fishing industry. The Massachusetts Office of Environmental Affairs issued a certificate of approval to Suez LNG to one day bring specially designed liquefied natural gas ships off the state coast and then pump gas through undersea pipelines to storage tanks on land. The more than $1b Suez proposal is the second LNG offshore project approved by the environmental agency. Excelerate of Texas recently got the agency’s blessing for a similar project - with the same $23.5 million in mitigation concessions.
