Wärtsilä Introduces 46DF Dual Fuel Engine

Wärtsilä announced the debut of its new dual-fuel 46DF engine which it said offers lower specific fuel consumption, higher output and attractive lifecycle costs compared to other alternatives currently available on the market. Wärtsilä announce their new medium-speed 46DF engine which is capable of operating on natural gas, heavy fuel oil, or marine diesel oil. “With this newly launched product, Wärtsilä has raised the industry standard even higher, since it offers simultaneously drastically lower specific fuel consumption, both in gas and diesel fuel mode, remarkably higher output, and extremely attractive lifecycle costs compared to any other alternative currently available on the market,” says Mr Lars Anderson, Vice President 4-stroke Sales, Wärtsilä Ship Power.

Wärtsilä Launches More Powerful 34DF Engine

Wärtsilä has further developed its dual fuel technology and introduced a more powerful version of its popular Wärtsilä 34DF engine. The Wärtsilä 34DF engine has proven to be a highly efficient and reliable solution for a wide range of vessel applications. The latest version is expected to expand that range even further. Lower fuel consumption of this engine will further improve its environmental performance. Available since 2003, the Wärtsilä 34DF is mainly used in the LNG-fuelled offshore support vessel market, particularly for tugs, ferries, Ro-Ro, Ro-Pax and workboats.

The latest version of Wärtsilä's 34 DF (Dual Fuel) marine diesel engine offers a power increase up to 500kw per cylinder. The Wärtsilä 34DF engine has proven to be a highly efficient and reliable solution for a wide range of vessel applications. The latest version is expected to expand that range even further. Lower fuel consumption of this engine will further improve its environmental performance. Since 2003,  Wärtsilä says that their 34DF has paved the way in the LNG-fuelled offshore support vessel market.
