U.S. LNG equipment maker Chart Industries has received full notice to proceed (FNTP) regarding its production of cold boxes and brazed aluminium heat exchangers for Venture Global’s 10 million tpy Calcasieu Pass LNG export terminal project.The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved Venture Global LNG request to proceed with full site preparation at its proposed 10 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) export terminal in Louisiana earlier this week.Venture Global recently announced its final investment decision (FID) and the closing of project financing for its Calcasieu Pass LNG facility and associated TransCameron pipeline in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.The proceeds of the debt and equity financing fully fund the balance of the construction and commissioning of Calcasieu Pass.

The Russian natural-gas company Novatek and Atomenergomash, a mechanical engineering division of the Rosatom State Corporation, have signed a memorandum on strategic partnership and localizing the fabrication of critical equipment for liquefied natural gas (LNG) production.Novatek said that under the memorandum, the two companies will cooperate in the long term to localize the fabrication of pumps, heat exchangers and other equipment for Novatek's LNG projects at Atomenergomash's facilities.The Memorandum notes the results already achieved on the fabrication of coil-wound heat exchangers and medium-tonnage cryogenic pumps, and establishes the obligations of the Parties on design…

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has announced its targets of cutting greenhouse gas emissions from global shipping in half by the year 2050, and to make ships entirely CO2-neutral before 2100. But long before that, the so-called sulphur cap will take effect: From 2020 all oceangoing ships must run on fuel that contains no more than 0.5 per cent of sulphur. According to estimates by classification society DNV GL, up to 70,000 ships will be subject to this requirement.

TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico Successfully Performs First LNG Bunkering at Jacksonville Port. On Saturday, January 9, 2016, TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico successfully loaded LNG bunkers aboard the world’s first LNG powered containership, MV Isla Bella. Approximately 100,000 LNG gallons transported by 12 TOTE-owned LNG ISO containers were loaded on schedule. The bunkering was conducted under strict US Coast Guard oversight while Isla Bella was also undergoing cargo operations. The LNG was transferred from the ISO tank containers using a specially developed transfer skid developed by TOTE’s partner Applied Cryogenics Technologies (ACT) of Houston, Texas. The transfer skid is designed to allow four ISO tanks to be transferred to Isla Bella at once, dramatically reducing transfer time.

Crowley Maritime Corp. informs it has responded to increased market demand, acquiring 16 additional ISO tanks for its Carib Energy group that will be used to supply, transport and distribute U.S.-sourced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to customers in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Central America. A raft of new and innovative concepts for LNG barge missions hits the market, in North America and across the pond, as well. Industry gears up for the soon-to-come need for bunkering, infrastructure and LNG-related logistics. In 2014, innovation – as it turns out – means new ideas for the (previously) boring subject of marine barges. It also means LNG. Paired together, LNG and barges are giving naval architects, global classification societies and the operators of a new generation of LNG-powered tonnage something to think about. That’s because the final link of the push to move to dual fuel and/or LNG-powered commercial vessels involves infrastructure. Some early stakeholders are ramping up shore infrastructure to meet the coming demand for bunkers.

Jensen Maritime Consultants – leveraging a unique porthole on the maritime industry – anticipates and meets demand in the burgeoning maritime LNG sectors. Nevertheless, says Jensen’s Johan Sperling, it’s not rocket science. At the recent Passenger Vessel Association (PVA) annual meeting held in Houston, Texas, Jensen Maritime Consultants had on display just a couple of their many design efforts underway at the Crowley-owned design and engineering shop. Naturally, those designs had the use or carriage of LNG as their central theme. LNG, at least on this side of the pond, is still largely uncharted waters, but that’s hardly the case for Jensen.

Wärtsilä said it will will provide a complete dual-fuel propulsion and LNG equipment package for a new passenger ferry being built for the Germany based Reederei Cassen Eils GmbH. The contract was signed in October 2013 with Fr. Fassmer GmbH, the shipyard responsible for the vessel's construction. The new ferry will operate between Cuxhaven and the island of Helgoland in Germany. This route will take it close to the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea national park, an ecologically sensitive UNESCO World Heritage listed area in the south-eastern part of the North Sea.

Marine design and engineering company Houlder announced the formation of an LNG project team in its London headquarters. Ian Meaden, Des Upcraft and Lijo Thomas joined the team this month to work exclusively on developing LNG projects in response to market requirements. The company said its new talent investment means it can build on its current LNG equipment projects to help with all aspects of marine design, engineering and project management from initial FEED study to implementation.

Shanghai-based Wison Offshore & Marine Ltd., a subsidiary of the Wison Group, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Black & Veatch to jointly pursue barge-based natural gas liquefaction facility projects on an exclusive basis. Under the agreement, Wison will hold responsibility for barge design and engineering, overall project management, construction, delivery and financing of the integrated facility. As part of a drive to enhance capability and expertise in the repair of lng carriers, MSE has entered into a Technical Service Agreement on October 15th 2002 with Gaz Transport Technigaz (GTT).
