TNKC Fleet Upgraded with BASS Software

Maritime software company BASS starts the fourth quarter by clinching a fleet-wide system upgrade for the subsidiary of the K-Line group Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co., Ltd (TNKC). With this upgrade, 107 TNKC vessels will operate on the BASSnet 2.8 Fleet Management System to enhance its efficiency gains. The ship management company has been operating on BASSnet 2.0 since 2001. TNKC has been enjoying the benefits of optimizing its shipping operations with BASSnet Fleet Management Systems for a full 12 years.

Leevac Acquires Quality Shipyards from Tidewater

LEEVAC Shipyards, LLC through its newly created subsidiary LEEVAC Shipyards Houma, LLC (LEEVAC) has completed the acquisition of substantially all assets of Quality Shipyards, Inc. (Quality) located at 3201 Earhart Street in Houma Louisiana from Tidewater Marine, LLC (NYSE: TDW). The acquisition of assets includes 35 acres of industrial property located on 2,500 feet of waterfront along the intracoastal waterway, 4 drydocks (the largest measuring 4,200 tons of capacity), 100,000 square feet of covered production facilities and several large track cranes.

Q&A on Offshore Safety

MarineNews: How long has your current safety training program been in place? Bruce Adams: The current Schlumberger New Employee Safety Training program (NEST), was developed in 1991. This is a six day, intensive training course covering a variety of mandatory safety topics. In 1992, the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) recognized the program as the best overall training program in the offshore industry and awarded Schlumberger the NOIA "Safety in Seas" award for 1992. MN: How much money is spent annually on the safety program? Adams: The NEST program is part of a much more comprehensive safety effort in Schlumberger. From 1996 to 1998, the amount of money spent on safety by Schlumberger in the US alone increased from $12.4 million to $19.4 million annually.
