DP World Begins Building New Berth at London Gateway

Deepwater Port Posorja 1st Phase Opened

The $538 million first phase of the new Deepwater Port of Posorja in Ecuador by global trade enabler, DP World, is now completed and successfully operational.The overall $1.2 billion project will replicate Dubai's Jebel Ali Port and freezone, making Ecuador a trade and logistics hub for South America's west coast, and opening a gateway for large container ships with capacities exceeding 10,000 TEUs.Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO, DP World, visited the facility to assess progress of the project, which is one of the largest international investments in Ecuador. ONE Launches India-Europe Direct Service

New COSCO Service Between UK, Europe, Russia

Chinese state-owned shipping and logistics services supplier company COSCO Shipping Lines announced a new COSCO feeder service from St Petersburg, Russia will begin calling at DP World Southampton."COSCO is to introduce a new weekly call at DP World Southampton, as part of a rotation including St Petersburg, Russia; Kotka, Finland; Southampton, UK; and Rotterdam, Netherlands," said a press release.The news comes after COSCO confirmed in February that DP World Southampton will be a permanent call on its feeder service. CMA CGM Upgrades NEMO service

Shipping group CMA CGM has reinforced its Europe / Indian Ocean & Australia offering by upgrading its NEMO service, which liaises North Europe and the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean Islands and Australia on the southbound leg and Australia to southeast Asia and Europe on the northbound leg.This upgraded service will be effective in September 2019 and operated in partnership with MSC, subject to applicable filing requirements.CMA CGM said the new offer will feature an upgraded fleet and provide expanded port coverage through a better utilization of hubs offering dedicated feeder services.

DP World buys back P&O Ferries for $421 mln

DP World has bought back British ferry and shipping freight operator P&O Ferries for 322 million pounds ($421 million), more than a decade after it sold it.DP World acquired the British shipping and logistics company in 2006 but soon sold off some assets, including P&O Ferries to its major shareholder, state holding company Dubai World.DP World announced on Wednesday it was buying the company, and a spokeswoman later told Reuters it had bought it back from Dubai World.Dubai World was at the heart of the emirate’s financial crisis at the turn of the decade and was forced to restructure around $

Kalmar, DP World Southampton Pact for Hybrid Straddle Carriers

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with DP World Southampton to supply 12 hybrid straddle carriers for use at their container terminal, said a press release.The Southampton agreement also includes maintenance and operator training as well as six months of on-site maintenance support. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 third quarter order intake, and delivery is scheduled for Q2 of 2019. DP World Southampton is the UK port of choice for many global leaders in the container shipping industry. Thanks to its strategic location on the UK's south coast it is an ideal first or last port of call for container ships serving the Northern Europe-Far East trade routes.

DP World Gross Volume Up 4.8% for 1H 2018

Dubai-based port and terminal operator DP World said that its gross volumes rose 4.8 percent to USD 35.6 billion s for the six months to 30 June 2018,  despite uncertainties in the container market. Container Ship “Afif” Named in London Gateway

It took British Maritime Minister Nusrat Ghani just one go to activate the mechanism that sent a big champagne bottle crashing against the massive sidewall of the “Afif”. This marked the official naming of the 15,000 TEU container ship on 16 July 2018. The name “Afif” is of Arabic origin and means “purity” and “honesty”; also, Afif is a city in central Saudi Arabia. The ship is technically equipped to use LNG fuel. With its ten sisters, “Afif” belongs to the category of “Ultra Large Container Vessel”, the second-largest ship class in Hapag-Lloyd’s fleet. “It is an honour to name Afif, Hapag-Lloyd’s latest container ship, as it will have a vital role in the growth of the UK economy by moving our exports and imports,” said Nusrat Ghani.

CMA CGM Plans Multi-Temperature Logistics Facility at DP World

CMA CGM, a world leader in maritime transport, is to take a long-term lease and invest in a build-to-suit, multi-temperature warehouse facility at DP World London Gateway Logistics Park. The CMA CGM Group will occupy, through its international freight forwarding and logistics solutions subsidiary, a one hectare cold store facility within a 2.4 hectare logistics plot development on the River Thames and located close to main road access into the London area. This state-of-the-art facility, fitted with IT traceability and management systems, represents a major milestone for the CMA CGM Group’s strategy to develop a global range of products in maritime transportation but also in inland solutions and logistics.

Pentalver to Expand Container Facility at DP World London

Pentalver Transport Limited has commenced work on Phase two of its container facility at DP World London Gateway. Work started to expand the container yard, located on Berth Seven of the logistics hub, on Monday, August 15. Pentalver opened the first phase of the facility in 2015, following a successful interim operation in support of customers who has commenced container operations at the new port. Phase two of the development will add 40% additional capacity to the Pentalver operation and highlights the commitment Pentalver has made to DP World London Gateway following the commercial success achieved since opening in November 2013.

London Port's Trade Jumps to Record 50 mi tonnes

Trade in the Port of London in 2016 reached the highest this decade, rising 10% to top 50 million tonnes for the first time since 2008. The strong performance reflects continued growth at terminals along the Thames. The volumes of oil, containers and building materials all rose markedly. Prior to 2016, port throughput had been increasing at between two to three percent, year-on-year. PLA chief executive, Robin Mortimer said, "Our long term Vision is for 60 to 80 million tonnes of cargo to be traded every year through the Port of London - more than at any time in the Thames' history. The tonnage of cargo handled at terminals on the Thames last year was 50.4 million tonnes, five million tonnes (or 11%) up on 2015.

DP World Volumes rise

DP World Limited handled 63.7 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its global portfolio of container terminals in the full year of 2016, with gross container volumes growing by 3.2% year-on-year on a reported basis, and 2.2% on a like-for-like  basis, which compares favourably to the industry estimated growth of 1.3% for 2016 . In the fourth quarter, gross reported volumes grew by 6.0% year-on-year driven by strong growth in Asia Pacific and Europe. UAE handled 3.7 million TEU in 4Q2016 down marginally by 0.7% year-on-year. The Americas and Australia region delivered a broadly stable volume performance during this period.

New Container Facility at DP World London Gateway

A new off-dock empty container storage yard is to be opened at DP World London Gateway Port. The five acre yard will be operated and managed by Solent Stevedores, an award-winning stevedoring company with a broad range of bulk and general cargo handling and storage services at ports in Southampton, Jersey, Immingham and London. The facility will be located on Berth 7, outside of the terminal’s ISPS perimeter but adjacent to the port’s main gate. A number of associated container services will also be offered by Solent Stevedores from the site. Work to develop the yard will commence next month, with it then due to become operational by the first quarter of 2018.

DP World London Now Handles Far East Calls

MOL Triumph, the first of the world’s largest and newest vessels to call in the UK, arrives in Southampton on THE Alliance's FE2 service as new third deep-water berth opened at London Gateway in April, ahead of first regular Asia-Europe service starting. DP World's UK terminals will welcome the first services from the Far East following a global shake-up of the world’s shipping lines. Inaugural calls of Asia/Europe services by THE Alliance, a shipping consortium made up of Mitsui O.S.K Line, Yang Ming, NYK, K-Line and Hapag Lloyd/UASC, will see the largest vessel to ever call at a UK port berth at DP World Southampton this Thursday, May 11.

CMA CGM, SEATRADE Launch Joint Reefer Service

Container shipping firm CMA CGM Group and reefer transport specialist SEATRADE Group will together create a new vessel sharing agreement incorporating the services known by CMA CGM as PAD and by Seatrade as MERIDIAN, linking Northern Europe, the East Coast of the U.S., Central America, the Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Peru and the Caribbean on a weekly basis. The new service, expected to launch in October 2017, will bring together CMA CGM, SEATRADE and shipping company MARFRET and improve their frequency and port coverage.
