Coast Guard Drops Medical Supplies to Injured Crew

A U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) aircrew dropped medical supplies to a Colombian fishing vessel 900 miles northwest of Galapagos Island, Sunday, the USCG informs. At approximately 10 p.m., Saturday, Coast Guard 11th District watchstanders received a call from personnel aboard the fishing vessel Sea Gem, a Colombian-flagged purse seiner, requesting medical supplies for two injured crewmembers aboard. The operator of the vessel reported they were conducting routine fishing operations in air and on water when their helicopter’s cabin caught on fire.

Maersk Line Gets new AEO number

Maersk Line has been re-certified as an Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) with the AEO-F, the highest achievable accreditation in the European Union programme. The status benefits customers in several ways. The AEO-F certificate is granted to companies that meet particularly high safety and security standards in global trade, and is similar to the US C-TPAT, which Maersk Line also holds. In connection with Maersk Line’s separation from A.P. Moller-Maersk into its own legal entity, Maersk Line’s new AEO number is: DK AEOF 14-5317817. “Maersk Line was an early participant in the EU AEO programme and backs the imbedded values and visions of being a trusted supply chain partner” said Lars Lorenzen, Shore & Supply Chain Safety and Security at Maersk Line.

Crowley Wins Military Sealift Command Contract

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s global ship management group has been has been awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of the T-AGOS/T-AGM fleet for the Military Sealift Command. This fleet of seven ships supports the Navy’s Surveillance Towed Array Sensor Systems (SURTASS) operations; the U.S. Air Force's dual-band, phased array and parabolic dish radars; and other government research missions. The contract covers the operation and maintenance of five T-AGOS and up to two T-AGM ocean surveillance ships.

New Missile Range Ship Passes Final Navy Trials

The missile range instrumentation ship 'USNS Howard O. Lorenzen' (T-AGM 25) successfully completed its final contract trials (FCT) in San Diego. FCTs, run by the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV), mark the final review in a series of post-delivery tests and trials exercising all aspects of the vessel and its systems, including main propulsion, damage control, supply, deck, navigation, habitability, electrical systems and operations. INSURV officials monitored the successful demonstration of the ship's systems including both in-port and at-sea testing.

Latest U.S. DofD Navy Contracts

Amongst the listing of new Department of Defense, Navy contracts. Vigor Marine LLC, Portland, Ore., is being awarded a $12,954,046 firm-fixed-price contract for a 120-calendar day post shakedown availability, regular overhaul and dry-docking availability of missile range instrumentation ship the USNS Howard O. Lorenzen (T-AGM 25). Work will include fuel oil fill; transfer and overflow systems modifications; main diesel engine fuel oil service piping modifications; relocation of AC seawater pumps; docking and undocking; and underwater hull cleaning and painting.

RPG Installs 3 Mak GenSets for Navy

Resource Power Group successfully completed the installation, commissioning, and warranty for three (3) MaK 12V32C medium speed diesel generator sets on board the USNS Howard O Lorenzen TAG-M 25 ship,  constructed by VT Halter Marine. Resource Power Group was selected by Caterpillar Defense & Federal Products to support this project for many reasons, including an ability to provide large-bore engine commissioning personnel, 24/7 technical support, and prompt service. “Being the administrator for most contracts awarded by the U.S. Government, Caterpillar Defense & Federal Products depends on the Caterpillar Dealer network for all installation, commissioning, training and service (pre- and post-warranty) for all these projects.

Caterpillar Delivering the Power Solutions for United States Navy Missile Vessel MaK Engines Selected for the U.S.N.S. Howard O. Lorenzen. Caterpillar Marine Power Systems is pleased to announce MaK and Cat® power solutions are featured onboard the U.S.N.S. Howard O. Lorenzen, a T-AGM 25 Missile Range Instrumentation ship. The Lorenzen is powered by 4x MaK 12 M 32 C diesel electric propulsion (DEP) engines, delivering 5.5 megawatts of rated power each. The Lorenzen also has 1x Cat C32 diesel generator set onboard to provide emergency power. In addition to being the largest Cat engines ever installed on a United States governmental vessel, the MaK power solutions are also largest Cat engines ever delivered to any United States government or military branch.

Navy To Christen USNS Howard O. Lorenzen

The Navy will christen the missile range instrumentation ship USNS Howard O. Lorenzen on Saturday, June 26, 2010, during a 1 p.m. CDT ceremony at VT Halter Marine in Pascagoula, Miss. The ship honors the late Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) electrical engineer who was instrumental in the creation of our nation's electronic intelligence capabilities. Vice Adm. David J. Dorsett, deputy chief of naval operations for information dominance, willdeliver the ceremony's principal address. Susan Lorenzen Black, daughter of the ship's namesake, is the sponsor, and in accordance with Navy tradition, will break a bottle of champagne across the bow to formally christen the ship.

Galinis Commands NAVSEA's SUPSHIP Gulf Coast

Capt. William J. Galinis relieved Capt. Mary E. Dexter as commanding officer of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) field activity, Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), Conversion and Repair, Gulf Coast, Sept. 18 in a ceremony in Pascagoula, Miss. Retired Rear Adm. Mark Hugel gave the ceremony's keynote address. NAVSEA Commander, Vice Adm. Kevin McCoy spoke about how SUPSHIP Gulf Coast has made an invaluable impact on the Navy's ability to build the Fleet. "(Dexter) led this team of more than 350 military and civilian employees in providing the engineering, quality assurance, contract management, and financial services in partnership with industry to build our 21st century Navy," said McCoy.

Clean Tanker Rates Drop Another 10 Points

Clean tankers in the intra-Asian trades have suffered an eighth week of stagnant trading, causing rates to slip another 10 points to W240 ($15.69 per ton), Singapore brokers said on Wednesday. "The panel rate (judged by a panel of six brokerages) is around W250, but we think it's much nearer W240 at the moment," said a broker. The benchmark trade from Singapore to Japan on 30,000 ton tankes almost touched W300 in June ($19.62 per ton). Another Singapore broker pegged the trade at W245 and said to ignore rumors of a fixture this week at W230. "There's just very little enquiry for ships from Singapore," said the broker.
