German shipbuilder Meyer Werft on Thursday delivered the new cruise ship Arvia to British shipping company P&O Cruises. The sister ship of the Iona, built in 2020, also has low-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion.At 185,000 tonnes, 345 meters in length with 16 guest decks, the newbuild can accommodate around 5,200 passengers in its 2,659 guest cabins.Jan Meyer, managing director at Meyer Werft, said, "The current tense global situation, with supply bottlenecks and material shortages, poses challenges for the construction of such complex cruise ships.

P&O Cruises has cancelled cruises around Dubai and the Arabian Gulf after Iran seized a British-flagged tanker in the region.Citing increased tensions, the company said it has cancelled its planned programme in the region from October until at least March next year and all guests be issued a full refund.Last month, Iran's Revolutionary Guards seized a British tanker, Stena Impero, near the Strait of Hormuz for alleged marine violations.

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has laid the keel for the British P&O Cruises’ first-ever LNG ship, which will be named Iona and be the greenest cruise ship in the UK when she debuts in May 2020.The keel laying ceremony at the Meyer Werft  in Papenburg marked the official start for assembling the hull of the new luxury liner for the United Kingdom. The ship will be handed over to the customer in spring 2020.The traditional keel laying coins were placed by Paul Ludlow (President P&O Cruises) together with Stephan Schmees (Executive Board Member Project Management) Meyer Werft  und Jürgen Storz (Project Leader Meyer Werft).Block 1B measures 21.5 m in length, 19.4 m in width and 9.8 m in height.

P&O Cruises marked a construction milestone last week as it cut the first piece of steel for its newest ship being built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg. The steel cutting ceremony was attended by P&O Cruises senior vice president, Paul Ludlow; Carnival UK president Josh Weinstein and managing director of Meyer Werft, Tim Meyer. Carnival Corporation announced it has signed a shipbuilding contract for a second cruise ship for its P&O Cruises brand with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft GmbH that is scheduled to be delivered in 2022. Similar to a fellow P&O Cruises sister ship due for delivery in 2020, this second new vessel will be the largest cruise ship to be built specifically for the British market. It will be 180,000 gross tons and will accommodate approximately 5,200 guests (lower berths). Both new ships will be registered in the U.K.

A U.S. appeals court said BP Plc, which in July reached a $18.7 billion settlement of federal, state and local claims over the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, must face one of two proposed class-action lawsuits claiming that the oil company defrauded shareholders over the disaster. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans said investors who bought BP's American depositary shares in a 33-day period soon after the spill may pursue group claims that BP initially "lowballed" the oil flow rate, and that the share price tumbled as the crisis' magnitude became known.

The Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) requires that individuals needing unescorted access to MTSA-regulated Facilities and Vessels must first obtain a TWIC. To obtain a TWIC Card, an individual must meet certain eligibility requirements and pass a security threat assessment conducted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Individuals are then issued a tamper-resistant credential containing the cardholders biometric fingerprint data, which provides a conclusive link between the card and the individual cardholder. To date, more than 2 million of these credentials have been issued.

The Resort at Port Ludlow: efforts are still underway to expedite the departure of 118 ft delinquent vessel 'New Star'. Port Ludlow Marina (Ludlow, WA) staff, along with the ship's current owner Geroge Marincin, have put a 24-hour vessel watch in place with the assistance of Rodger Slate, Vessel Assist of Port Hadlock, Wa. The U.S. Navy is awarding indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity multiple award contracts to 391 contractors that will provide for their competition for service requirements solicited by Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Air Systems Command, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, Naval Supply Systems Command, Military Sealift Command, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Strategic Systems Programs, and the United States Marine Corps. The 22 functional service areas within the scope of the contracts include 1. Research and Development Support. 2. Engineering System Engineering and Process Engineering Support. 3. Modeling, Simulation, Stimulation, and Analysis Support. 4. Prototyping, Pre-Production, Model-Making, and Fabrication Support.

The Coast Guard and Navy assisted the two-man crew of a 62-foot pleasure craft LEGACY III after it ran aground Monday night North of Port Ludlow near Mats Mats Bay. The LEGACY's crew used their cell phone to call Jefferson County Dispatch who then notified the Coast Guard at 7 p.m. of boats situation. An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter was dispatched from Port Angeles and the U.S.S. ZEPHYR, a 170-foot Navy Patrol boat, diverted from its course to assist. The U.S.S. ZEPHYR dispatched a small boat to bring the two men from the grounded boat onto the patrol boat. Then two Coast Guard personnel attached to the ZEPHYR were placed on the LEGACY III with two dewatering pumps. The Coast Guardsmen stayed onboard the vessel until a commercial salvage contractor out of Port Townsend arrived on scene.
