In the last few months, the submarine cable industry’s #1 cable installation software, MakaiLay, has been commissioned on four cable laying vessels around the world. KT Submarine (KTS, Korea) recently completed a challenging installation with one of their cable laying vessels, Segero. They also commissioned the software on their other vessel, the Responder, and are currently using it to manage a cable installation in the Pacific. “To provide more accurate cable installation services to our client, we started using MakaiLay in our most recent cable lays, and we are impressed with its capabilities,” said Mr. Moon, Engineer-In-Charge, KT Submarine.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings Limited announced that yesterday was a “momentous” for the group, as senior Chinese officials paid visit to Yangzijiang’s shipyard and the group’s chairman received the Outstanding Entrepreneur Award by the Chinese Enterprises Association. On the morning of June 18, Vice-premier of China’s state council, Ma Kai, and Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei visited the Group’s Jiangsu New Yangzi yard together with national departments, provincial and municipal leaders.

Construction will be completed Friday of a new sign informing mariners of the 24/7 security zone in the Honolulu Harbor and whom to contact for permission to enter, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said in a press announcement. The sign, measuring 12 x 24 feet, is worded with large letters created using highly reflective tape, will be lit at night and is oriented so that mariners will be able to read the sign while still offshore, outside the security zone. Wang Jing, the enigmatic businessman behind Nicaragua's $50 billion Interoceanic Grand Canal, shrugs off scepticism about how a little-known entrepreneur can be driving a huge transcontinental project, insisting he's not an agent of the Beijing government. Global Marine Systems Ltd. (GMSL)  is in the process of converting six of its cable installation and repair vessels to begin using the latest Makai software technology. With the addition of GMSL to the list of customers, Makai software products are now used by large installers and smaller telecom cable installers throughout the world, accounting for more than 80% of the world’s cable installation fleet, the company said. 3)    The MakaiLay Seismic module which will enhance the capabilities of GMSL in accurately installing and retrieving seismic arrays for the oil and gas industry.

The Oceanic Princess, the first of two new cable laying vessels purchased for conversion by specialist UK shipping group James Fisher and Sons PLC in the second half of last year, has been delivered on long term charter to it-International Telecom, a subsidiary of Advanced Technology Systems, Greensboro, N.C. Delivery to it-International on May 4 follows the successful completion of sea trials for the 5,000-ton former RoRo vessel, converted to its new role at the Victor Lenac shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia. Conversion work on the second ship, the 3,000-ton Oceanic Pearl, is at an advanced stage. This vessel is expected to undergo sea trials later in the summer prior to going on charter to it-International.
