Knud H. Hansen has designed, project managed and supervised the construction for a Live Fish Carrier for Bakkafrost in the Faroe Islands. This vessel is one of the biggest Live Fish Carriers in the world at 109.2 x 22.2m with a cargo capacity of 7,000 cu. m. With four cargo holds of 1,750 cu. m. each the vessel can transport about 1,000 tons of live salmon from cages offshore to shore-based processing facilities. GSI Pacific Inc.,* Honolulu, Hawaii, is awarded $12,481,550 for a firm-fixed-price task order (N6247818F4183) under a previously awarded multiple award construction contract (N62478-16-D-4015) to overhaul a dry dock caisson and provide dock repairs at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The work to be performed provides for 10-year ultrasonic testing of the entire caisson in accordance with Military Standard 1625D including, but not limited to, plating of the entire hull, top deck (weather deck), machinery deck, internal strength decks, bulkheads including breast hooks, ballast tank and machinery deck internal structural members such as stiffeners, truss frame members and sea chests/ballast piping seaward of the first closure valve.

Marine equipment manufacturer Schoellhorn-Albrecht said it has been awarded a subcontract from Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) to design and build various equipment for the U.S. Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Cutters (OPC). Schoellhorn-Albrecht was selected for the deck machinery, deck fittings, accommodation ladder system and structural castings including the shaft strut and stern tube. The OPC is the U.S. Coast Guard’s largest shipbuilding program. The U.S. Coast Guard’s current contract calls for ESG to build 11 OPCs to replace the medium endurance cutters.

A comprehensive dry docking and life extension plan has been set out for the 62-year-old Finnish icebreaker Voima, continuing its run as the world’s oldest operational icebreaker. Commissioned in 1954, Voima is part of Arctia’s icebreaker fleet and has demonstrated its reliability in the Baltic Sea over the decades, serving as model for many four-propeller icebreakers built after it. Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) delivereed the Reverse Tractor Tug Archie T. Higgins to Bisso Offshore, LLC in late 2015. Upon arrival in Louisiana and at the mouth of the Mississippi River, the vessel went right to work escorting its first ship northbound to New Orleans. The vessel names honors Archibald (Archie) Thomas Higgins, Jr., who passed away earlier this year. Higgins helped lead the company’s operations from 1973 until 1995. Higgins also served on the Board of Directors of E.N. Bisso and Son until the time of his death.

Alewijnse Marine Systems completed the electrical conversion of the jack-up rig Atlantic Amsterdam. The Atlantic Amsterdam has spent the last nine months at Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen being converted from a drilling rig to offshore hotel accommodation by Nordica Offshore Pte, Ltd. Alewijnse was responsible for the supply, installation, integration and commissioning of a number of critical electrical systems. The Atlantic Amsterdam, formerly called Shelf Explorer, is owned by Atlantic Amsterdam Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, a subsidiary of Ezion Holdings Ltd.

Alewijnse Marine Systems will play a significant role in the conversion of the jack-up drill rigs Atlantic London and Atlantic Amsterdam to offshore hotel accommodation. Both refits will start in July 2012 and take several months to complete. This order is from Nordica Offshore. Atlantic London is due to arrive at the ASL Shipyard in Batam, Indonesia next month, while the Atlantic Amsterdam will arrive at Scheldepoort Repair & Conversion Yard in Vlissingen around the same time.

Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine Inc. has teamed up with Great Lakes Shipyard, a division of The Great Lakes Towing Company, Cleveland, OH to create a state-of-the-art marine service center to improve and grow their respective vessel repair and overhaul businesses in the Great Lakes Region. The long-term agreement, effective June 1, 2011 is the latest stage in the development of a global Marine Service Center network, which brings the expertise of Rolls-Royce engineers to customers around the world. Rolls-Royce has opened seven Marine Service Center in the last two years and the global network now includes facilities in 34 countries.
