Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) on Friday launched the R.B. Weeks, the second trailing suction hopper dredge the Florida shipbuilder has constructed for Weeks Marine, Inc.The R.B. Weeks is named in honor of Richard B. Weeks, a co-founder of Weeks Marine and married to Magdalen Weeks, the namesake of the sister vessel Magdalen, built by Eastern and delivered in 2017.The new 356-foot trailing suction hopper dredge is being constructed at ESG’s Allanton Shipyard and has a hopper capacity of 8,550 cubic yards. Finnish marine cargo handling equipment provider MacGregor has been selected to supply repeat packages of deck machinery equipment for two new US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) towing, salvage and rescue ships (T-ATS).According to a press release from MacGregor, part of Cargotec, the vessels under construction at Gulf Island Shipyards in Houma, Louisiana, US. A UK shipbuilder known for building high-speed ferries aims to enter the offshore wind market with a new line of wind farm support vessels (WFSV).Wight Shipyard Co (WSC) said its Vortisea brand of vessels, designed in collaboration with Australian naval architect Incat Crowther, is specifically geared toward European and UK wind farms, particularly those further offshore.“It’s fitting that being so well established in the fast ferry sector we have chosen to enter the WFSV market. Rolls-Royce has received a supply order from Spain’s Astilleros Gondan shipyard for the design, propulsion and auxiliary machinery systems for what has been dubbed one of world’s most advanced fishing vessels.Scheduled for delivery in 2020 to Prestfjord Seafood, a division of Norway’s Holmøy Maritime, the 77m trawler will be based on a Rolls-Royce NVC 732 WP design arranged with triple trawl and pelagic trawl for operation in Arctic waters catching white fish and shrimps. The launch of the L’Astrolabe, a 72 metre polar logistics vessel fitted with a complete Wärtsilä propulsion machinery package and Wärtsilä NOR (NOx Reducer) SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) exhaust gas cleaning systems for all the main engines, took place on July 12. This is the first vessel operating with the International Maritime Organisation’s IMO Tier III EIAPP (Engine International Air Pollution Prevention) certified Wärtsilä diesel engines. The ship was built by PIRIOU (France) for the French Southern and Antarctic Lands Administration. It will be used to transport personnel and supplies to the Dumont d’Urville research station in Antarctica.

Rapp Marine informs it will supply a complete electric deck machinery package for a new 130-meter-long krill vessel under construction for Aker BioMarine at Vard Group AS in Norway. The total contract value is 1 billion NOK (Approximately US$118.5 million). “This is our first delivery to a krill vessel,” said Tor-Idar Øye, Rapp Marine VP Sales. All plans and specifications for the new vessel have been developed in cooperation with fishermen from Aker BioMarine and engineers from Vard Group AS, according to Aker BioMarine.

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (Sinopacific) in Shanghai for a package of power and propulsion equipment and deck machinery. The contract is to equip nine SPA80A Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels to be designed and built by Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group and owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, ESNAAD. Each ship will have a bollard pull of 80 metric tons, and be equipped with Bergen diesel engines, main and tunnel thrusters, electrical power system and a deck machinery package from Rolls-Royce.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, will supply deck machinery for a new 65m emergency rescue & response vessel (ERRV) for Sentinel Marine. The ship has been designed by Focal Marine & Offshore Pte Ltd and will have a bollard pull of 100 tonnes of FOCAL 552. The order for the complete MacGregor anchor handling solution was booked into the third quarter 2015 order intake. MacGregor will supply a complete deck machinery package including a 200-tonne line pull / 300-tonne brake holding anchor handling towing winch, complete with a hydraulic spooling device, as well as Triplex shark jaws and guide pins. "MacGregor products were chosen because of their high quality and the company's worldwide service capabilities," notes Mr. Yaw Chee Keat, Shiptype Sales Manager, MacGregor Offshore Deck Machinery.

Dometic Marine, a division of Dometic Group, a global provider of leisure products for the marine, truck, caravan, motor home and automotive markets, has unveiled its new, dedicated team of ship-wide ventilation experts, who specialize in providing customized design, engineering support and consultation services to the global marine industry. Maersk Supply Service has exercised an option to add Rolls-Royce’s new Anchor Recovery Frames (ARF) to the supply contract awarded in December for deck machinery for six anchor handler vessels under construction at Norway’s Kleven Verft AS. Rolls-Royce informs that the contract marks the first reference for its next generation ARF, designed in cooperation with Maersk to optimize vessel safety and efficiency. Dometic Group, a global provider of leisure products for the RV, Marine and CPV (Commercial and Passenger Vehicle) markets, today announced that it has acquired Livos Technologies Inc., a provider of engine room ventilation equipment and systems for the commercial and pleasure boat markets. The acquisition will broaden Dometic’s offering to our global client base with new Marine applications such as axial fans, centrifugal blowers, smoke and fire dampers, mist-eliminating grilles and electronic fan controls. This acquisition will create a larger product portfolio by now also offering engine room ventilation equipment. Customers will benefit from having a single point of contact for their entire HVAC systems, simplifying design, service and maintenance.

Rolls-Royce has won a £19m contract with the Norwegian shipbuilding group Vard to deliver deck machinery, propulsion and engines to a new offshore construction and anchor handling vessel (OCV) for the Norwegian owner REM Supply. The vessel will be designed by Vard. The new vessel is developed for underwater construction work and anchor handling operations in Arctic waters and will have approximately 380 to 400 ton bollard pull to fulfill the demands for operational power in the deepwater segment. Rolls-Royce has won an order to provide integrated design and ship equipment for a highly innovative offshore vessel for Norwegian ship owner Island Offshore. The new striking UT 777 design has been developed in close cooperation with Island Offshore, to be used in offshore drilling operations during harsh weather conditions. The vessel (MOU) will be built in Japan by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and is scheduled for delivery in 2017. The contract is worth around £25 million to Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce is to deliver deck machinery and engines to an arctic Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessel (AHTS) to be built by Vard for Bourbon Offshore Norway. The contract has a value in excess of £17 million for Rolls-Royce. The deck machinery delivery from Rolls-Royce will consist of anchor handling winches, secondary winches, auxiliary winches, anchor handling cranes and a wide range of safer deck operation equipment. The engine delivery consists of two main engines and three main generator engines. AHTS vessels are built to handle anchors for oil rigs and perform rig moves.
