Murphy Takes Up Role as Chief Executive of IBIA

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has introduced its new Chief Executive, Justin Murphy, who akes up his new position from February 13, 2017. From 2013 to 2015, Murphy was CEO of Brightoil Shipping, Singapore and Executive Director at HKSE listed Brightoil Petroleum (Holdings) Ltd, an Energy conglomerate with bunkering and ship owning divisions. Prior to that, Murphy held director and board positions at several firms involved in shipping, including Teekay, AET, and a stint as head of shipping at Macquarie Bank.

Scorpio lines up $172m in loans for newbuilds

Scorpio Tankers Inc. announced today that the Company has received commitments for a loan facility of up to $172 million from a group of financial institutions including Macquarie Bank Limited (London Branch), DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale ("DekaBank"), The Export-Import Bank of Korea ("KEXIM") and Garanti-Instituttet for Eksportkreditt ("GIEK"). The loan facility, which is composed of multiple tranches, will be used to finance up to 60% of the market value of eight MR product tankers under construction at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd. which are scheduled for delivery in 2017 and 2018. The maturity date of each tranche is between six and 12 years from each drawdown date, and the facility bears interest at LIBOR plus a blended margin of 2.02% per annum.

Scorpio Tankers Secures $172m for Eight Vessels

Tanker carrier Scorpio Tankers has landed a loan deal for USD 172 million. The money will finance 60 percent of eight new MR product tankers which are currently under construction in South Korea. The company said in a press release that it has received commitments for a loan facility of up to $172 million from a group of financial institutions including Macquarie Bank Limited (London Branch), DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale (DekaBank), The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) and Garanti-Instituttet for Eksportkreditt (GIEK). The loan facility, which is composed of multiple tranches, will be used to finance up to 60% of the market value of eight MR product tankers under construction at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd. which are scheduled for delivery in 2017 and 2018.

Coal: One of 2016's Hottest Commodities

Less than a year after the coal industry was declared to be in terminal decline, the fossil fuel has staged its steepest price rally in over half a decade, making it one of the hottest major commodities. Cargo prices for Australian thermal coal from its Newcastle terminal, seen as the Asian benchmark, have soared over 35 percent since mid-June to more than one-year highs of almost $70 a tonne, pushed by surprise increases in Chinese imports. U.S. Merchant Bank Buys Aging Newfoundland Refinery

A New York-based commodities merchant bank run by veteran energy traders, Neal Shear and Kaushik Amin, announced on Friday plans to buy the aging Come by Chance refinery in Newfoundland from South Korea's state-run oil company. Korea National Oil Corp said it will sell the 115,000-barrel-per-day refinery to SilverRange Financial Partners LLC for an undisclosed price following a months-long search to find a buyer. The deal also includes 53 gas stations and convenience stores. SilverRange is a New York-based merchant bank focused on energy and natural resources owned by SilverPeak Partners, a real estate fund with over $12 billion in assets under management, according to its website.

Fastnet Appoints Will Holland as CFO

Fastnet Oil and Gas plc the E&P company focussed on exploration acreage in Africa and the Celtic Sea, announced appointment of Will Holland to the Board of Directors as Chief Financial Officer, with immediate effect. Will has over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas business, primarily gained in Africa and Europe. He started his career as a cementing and 'frac' engineer at Halliburton Energy Services before moving into business development roles based in Africa. After 2 years leading internal audit teams at Halliburton, he joined Macquarie Bank in London in 2007 where he originated, structured and managed equity and debt investments in small-cap E&P companies. Will holds a B.Eng (Mech) from Warwick University and an MBA from Heriot-Watt University.
