A fleet of U.S. offshore wind projects central to President Joe Biden's climate change agenda may not move forward unless his administration eases requirements for subsidies in the year-old Inflation Reduction Act, according to project developers.Norway's Equinor, France's Engie, Portugal's EDP Renewables, and trade groups representing other developers pursuing U.S. offshore wind projects told Reuters they are pressing officials to rewrite the requirements, and warning of lost jobs and investments otherwise."The components needed for our projects to progress simply do not exist in the U.S.

Allied Systems Company has been awarded a $70 million contract to design, test and manufacture up to 37 Crash and Salvage Crane units to the US Navy for use on Aircraft Carriers (CVN) and Landing Helicopter Assault and Dock Vessels (LHA and LHD). “We are a small veteran owned business and are honored and excited to be able to provide critical support equipment for the United States Navy. The Polar Research Institute of China has ordered a new 14,300gt polar research vessel. Designed by Aker Arctic Finland, it will be the first vessel of its type to be built in China, though a shipyard has yet to be named. The 122.5-meter multifunctional icebreaker will be able to handle ice up to 1.5 meters thick, achieving a continuous icebreaking speed of two to three knots. It will have an endurance of 20,000 nautical miles and with a full 90-person crew, it will be able to cruise for 60 days without resupply.

Rolls-Royce has signed a $11.5 million contract to supply the mooring system for the world’s largest semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV), Sleipnir. The vessel will be built in Singapore by SembCorp Marine for the Dutch company Heerema Offshore Services. Mooring systems from Rolls-Royce are designed to operate safely in the harshest climatic zones. For this vessel – the “Sleipnir” – Rolls-Royce will deliver a tailor made equipment package for specific operations, comprising a 12 point mooring system including electric driven winches, fairleads, wire sheaves and also a control system.

Continental Maritime of San Diego (CMSD), a ship repair subsidiary of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), has been awarded the Blue Sky Award by San Diego County’s Air Pollution Control District APCD for its initiatives targeting reduced air pollution. The APCD annually recognizes one small, one medium and one large business or organization for efforts toward improving air quality. CMSD was nominated by the Industrial Environmental Association in the medium-sized business category.

Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven announced its contract with De Beers Marine Namibia, part of De Beers Group, for the building of a specialized vessel for deep water mineral exploration, initially announced in October 2014, is expected to receive final approval in May 2015. The first of its kind vessel will be of MT 6022 design from Marin Teknikk. This design is proven within the offshore construction segment, but the newbuild for De Beers will include a wide range of tailor made equipment and features.

Berlin hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Joe Kaesar, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens. The parties addressed the key issues of the joint activities pointing to the long history of the partnership between the companies. In more than 20 years the parties have delivered a number of joint projects on deploying cutting-edge process solutions at Gazprom's facilities. The companies cooperate efficiently in gas production and transmission, automation of process control systems, general-purpose and basic power generation facilities. The focus of the meeting also fell on such relevant issues as maintenance and repair of Siemens-made equipment at Gazprom's facilities.

Norway’s Kleven has enjoyed a strong Q3 with significant orders from Maersk and De Beers, bringing its  order book to 18 vessels valued at $1.8 billion. SAL's heavy lift ship 'MV Svenja' loaded the extra heavy oversized cargo to a tight time-schedule and is now bound for the DSME shipyard in Geoje, S. Korea. MV Svenja loaded the 1,425 mtons unit measuring 42 x 37 x 36 m  with a total 54,353 cbm volume in the Port ot Rotterdam to a tight time schedule that allowed just two weeks planning and preparation for the carriage. Russian mini-submarines from the same class of a craft that was involved in a tense rescue operation at the bottom of the Pacific last year will be upgraded with new foreign-made equipment. Tenders would be held to give AS-28 mini-subs a radical overhaul using foreign-made submarine equipment and mobile systems based on Britain's Panther Command and Liaison Vehicle. The efforts follow an incident in the Bering Sea last August, when a Priz AS-28 with seven sailors on board became trapped in a fishing net at a depth of about 620 feet. It was released after three days when an unmanned British deep-sea rescue vehicle, the Scorpio 45, cut the cables and freed the mini-sub. A large rescue vehicle, the Igor Belousov, was under construction and would be fitted out with state-of-the-art equipment.

Design teams in IJmuiden, Montrose, Escrick, Bideford and Shanghai will now all operate under the IJmuiden-based Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) name and will work more closely together. The office in Bideford is new and will focus on cargo ships, patrol vessels, dredgers and mega yachts. Michiel Wijsmuller, managing director of OSD, said, "We are not just rebranding, we have integrated a loose group into a strong company.
