ACBL Names Schappell SVP of Logistics & Network Operations

Jeffersonville, Ind. based marine transportation company American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) announced Steve Schappell has been appointed Senior Vice President of Logistics and Network Operations after entering the role on an interim basis in September.Schappell, who joined ACBL in July 2021 as Vice President of Supply Chain and Continuous Improvement, was selected for the position over several external candidates, the company said.Reporting directly to ACBL CEO Mike Ellis, Schappell is responsible for ACBL's Fleets, Terminals, and Interchange business unit.

Platform Supply Vessel to Ship CO2 for Storage Under North Sea Seabed

A platform supply vessel, normally used to deliver goods to offshore oil and gas platforms, is undergoing preparations in the Danish Esbjerg port to carry CO2 containers for storage in the North Sea.Offshore vessel owner Blue Water and offshore energy industry services firm Semco Maritime are rebuilding and upgrading the vessel Aurora Storm to become part of the Danish carbon capture and storage project Greensand.Project Greensand is a group of 23 Danish and international companiesā€¦

Danish Maritime Officers Set a New Team

The union Danish Maritime Officers (DMO) has set a new team, with a new director, new chairman and deputy chairman, and has the ambition to increasingly serve its memberā€™s interests internationally.New chairman is Jens M. Sorensen, who has sailed training ships as a mate and navigator for 20 years and worked with anti-piracy as a risk consultant for more than a decade. The new deputy chairman is Jens Lundgaard, tow master with Maersk Drilling.ā€œAs current events clearly show, maritime personnel need a strong union.

Noble Corp. Shareholder to Vote Against Maersk Drilling Merger

Following the announcement of a proposed merger between offshore drillers Maersk Drilling and Noble Corporation on Wednesday, a Noble shareholder said it would vote against the deal.The combination is a primarily all-stock transaction where the shares of the combined company will be distributed equally between the current shareholders of Noble and Maersk Drilling.The transaction is planned to be implemented through an English incorporated holding company, which will make a voluntary tender exchange offer to the shareholders of Maersk Drilling. The tender exchange offer will allow Maersk Drillingā€™s shareholders to exchange each Maersk Drilling share for 1.6137 shares in the new holding company.The two drillers said that the proposed transaction completion was targeted to close in mid-2022ā€¦

Maritime Power: Methanol Fuel Cell System Takes Shape at Alfa Laval

A fuel cell system based on high-temperature proton exchange membrane (HTPEM) technology from Blue World Technologies is being constructed for testing at the Alfa Laval Test & Training Center in Aalborg, Denmark. The test installation, which will use methanol as fuel, will explore the technologyā€™s potential as a source of marine auxiliary power. Funded by Danish EUDP (Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program), the project is a joint effort between fuel cell maker Blue World Technologiesā€¦

Fruergaard to Take Over as CEO of Pacific Basin

Hong Kong-headquartered dry bulk shipping company Pacific Basin announced Wednesday that Martin Fruergaard will take over as CEO, replacing longtime chief executive Mats Berglund, who has decided to retie. Fruergaard, the current CEO of Danish gas shipping company Ultragas, will relocate to Hong Kong and join Pacific Basin in early July. He brings to the role significant maritime leadership experience, having previously occupied senior positions in Maersk Bulk Carriers, Maersk Tankers and Maersk Drilling.Berglund was CEO of Pacific Basin for nine yearsā€¦

Outgoing Ørsted CEO Poulsen to Join AP Moller

Henrik Poulsen, CEO of offshore wind giant Ørsted, who recently announced his decision to step down after eight years with the firm, will join Denmark's maritime giant AP Moller Holding.The A.P. Moller Group comprises of A.P. Moller - Maersk, Danske Bank, Maersk Drilling, Maersk Tankers, Maersk Product Tankers, KK Wind Solutions and A.P. Moller Capital. A.P. Moller Holding is the parent company of the Group.Poulsen will join AP Moller Holding (APMH) as a Senior Advisor and member of its Investment Committee on February 1, 2021.

Maersk Training in the UK announced the launch of its upgraded Training Management Solution (TMS) with the aim to improve the training management for companies dealing with fewer headcount and remote working, amid the coronavirus pandemic.The software is divided into two parts, a mobile app aimed at delegates and a web-based application for the administrators and training facilitators. Maersk Drilling Joins Offshore CO2 Storage Project

Danish offshore drilling company Maersk Drilling has joined a consortium whose aim is to develop an offshore storage solution for CO2 captured in Danish onshore facilities.Maersk Drilling said Wednesday it was joining a new CO2 storage consortium formed by INEOS Oil & Gas Denmark and Wintershall Dea. "The consortium is maturing one of the most progressed carbon capture and storage projects inside Danish jurisdiction and targets the development of CO2 storage capacity offshore Denmark based on reusing discontinued offshore oil and gas fields for permanent CO2 storageā€¦

Danish offshore vessel owner Maersk Supply Service will let go 55 people in an effort to cut its onshore costs.The company said Wednesday that, in response to the negative development in the oil and gas industry, Maersk Supply Service today announced that it will reduce its onshore costs by 30 percent. "Approximately 55 people will be affected globally, with the majority being in the Headquarters in Lyngby, Denmark," Maersk Supply Service said.ā€œWe realize that the announcement is very unsettling, and indeed undeserved, for our employees.

Danish offshore drilling contractor Maersk Drilling is set to mothball several offshore drilling rigs, and as a consequence, reduce the number of offshore workers, citing low oil prices and the impact of COVID-19 pandemic as the reason."The COVID-19 pandemic and the lower oil price environment are impacting offshore drilling activity. Some tenders and projects are being delayed or canceled which adversely affects commercial prospects," Maersk Drilling said Friday.As previously reported, Tullow Oil in March sent an early termination notice for the Maersk Venturer drillship in Ghana.

EU Ship Recycling Regulations Deadline Approaching

New European ship recycling regulations enter into force at the end of the year, but many shipowners have yet to comply. The EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EUsRR) stipulates that all ships over 500 GRT which call at EU ports must have a Statement of Compliance (SoC) demonstrating that they have an Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) on board. Current difficult market conditions, compounded by delays caused by the work-from-home situation due to the coronavirus pandemic, has meant many are still to undertake the necessary work to enter compliance.

Petrogas Extends Maersk Resolute Contract

Petrogas E&P Netherlands B.V. has exercised an option with Danish driller Maersk Drilling to extend the current contract of jack-up rig Maersk Resolute in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.The contract extension is for one well, A15 on the Dutch continental shelf, with an expected duration of 21 days.The exercised option extends Maersk Resoluteā€™s confirmed work scope into March 2019.The high-efficiency jack-up Maersk Resolute, which was launched in 2008, re-started operations in the Dutch sector in June 2018, after it was originally reactivated from warm-stacking and worked in the sector from June to December 2017.Maersk Resolute is currently on a rig-share contract between Petrogas E&P Netherlands B.V., TAQA Energy B.V.

GustoMSC Delivers Chela to Maersk Drilling

GustoMSC, the developer of the Chela crane, has transferred the multi-functional arm to Danish offshore driller Maersk Drilling.GustoMSC, which designs and engineers solutions for mobile offshore units, said in a press release that Maersk Drilling is the first offshore company which is going to work with Chela.Since its introduction in 2016, GustoMSCā€™s Chela has grown from the drawing board into a piece of equipment that has made all expectations come true.In presence of and with input from involved parties Maersk Drilling, AkerBP, JB systems and Breman Factory, the FAT test was successfully performed showing Chelaā€™s capabilities and facilitating a fast-track start-up for Maersk.

Maersk Vice CEO Steps Down After Energy Exit

Danish conglomerate A.P. Moller ā€“ Maersk informed that Claus V. Hemmingsen steps down as Vice CEO of the group. The company's energy division, which was headed by him, will also be shut down."The Energy division will close down latest by the end of June 2019, and Claus Hemmingsen will subsequently leave A.P. Moller ā€“ Maersk,  after nearly 40 years in service," said a company statement.The Group has successfully concluded the separation of Maersk Tankers, Maersk Oil and Maersk Drilling as part of the transformation initiated in 2016 to focus A.P. UK-based drilling contractor Awilco Drilling announced that tha appointment of  Jens Berge as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. Berge will succeed Jon Oliver Bryce."The Board would like to thank Jon Oliver Bryce for his nine years as Awilco Drilling's CEO. At the same time, we are very pleased to announce that Jens Berge has accepted to take over the CEO position" says Sigurd E. Borr Drilling Deploys IFS Applications

The global enterprise applications company IFS announced that international offshore drilling contractor Borr Drilling has deployed IFS Applications to improve operations and optimize its IT landscape.The enterprise software company said in a press release that the go-live is part of an implementation that will see IFS Applications rolled out to 10 oil rigs and over 1,000 users by January 2019.Borr Drilling, with a fleet of 36 rigs, 9 of which are currently under construction,  decided to replace its incumbent business systems to support its goal of becoming the worldā€™s leading provider of jack-up drills and drilling services, and to strengthen the efficiency of its international operationsā€¦

Norway to Drillers: Fix Oil Rig Lifeboat Safety

Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has told Transocean, Maersk Drilling and Odfjell Drilling to beef up emergency evacuation equipment and procedures on 22 offshore oil rigs, it said on Wednesday.Drilling rigs are equipped with enclosed lifeboats that can be dropped into the ocean in an emergency and owners must meet a series of technical and operational requirements for how to plan and carry out evacuations."All the audits identified a non-conformity from the regulations.

NGA in Rig Settlement Pact with Industri Energi

The Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NGA) reached an agreement with Industri Energi and SAFE in the Mid-Term Settlement for employees on mobile offshore units, drilling and catering on permanently placed facilities on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, after mediation at the national Mediatorā€™s Office several hours past deadline.The result involves a general wage growth of 3,6%. A strike among under 1600 rig workers is thus prevented."For the sake of the competitive situation and jobs on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, it is essential that we have avoided conflict and feel both parties have had to give and take," said the head negotiator for the NSA, Jakob Korsgaard, CEO of Maersk Drilling Norway.The mediations turned out to be very demanding, NGA said in a statement.
