Maersk India Trade Report Q3 2019

India’s import and export container trade in Q3 2019 (July-September) remained flat as compared to global growth of 1.5%. The slowdown is aligned closely with the weaker domestic demand, as well as a reflection of the broad-based cyclical weakening of the economic environment in all the main global economies. The negative effects from escalating trade restrictions also weighed on trade growth in the quarter. India's Containerized Trade Growth Slows

India's container trade growth slowed to 1 percent (9% in the same period last year) in Q2 2019 on account of various factors like growing trade tensions and slump in manufacturing sector, Maersk said."The slow down is due to a cocktail of international factors such as slowing trade growth, and growing trade tensions – coupled with domestic factors like rural consumer distress, tightening liquidity and a slow-down in key manufacturing sectors. Combined, these triggers impacted the country’s economic activity, slowing overall import-export growth," said Maersk India Trade Report Q2 2019.India’s exports to China declined by 20%, led by a reduction in demand for India-made textiles &  apparel, which were large export commodities in the corresponding period last year.

India Box Trade Grew 6% in Q4 2018: Maersk

India’s containerised trade with the world has grown steadily, recording an overall import-export trade growth of 6% according to the Q4 2018 trade report released by Maersk, the world’s largest container shipping company.Increasing demand for refrigerated cargo from India coupled with improved trade relations with China with introduction of favourable trade policies, has driven exports to grow a healthy 3% in Q4.The demand for India-made goods such as vehicles, cereals and rice; supplemented by refrigerated cargo such as fish, seafood, vegetables and pharmaceuticals saw maximum growth in exports. While imports have maintained a stable growth of 9%, largely driven by substantial inflow of metals and paper.

Indian Container Trade Grows 6%: Maersk

India’s containerised trade grew 6 per cent during the last quarter of 2018, with the western region outperforming the other three regions in Q4 trade.A report released by the world’s largest container shipping company Maersk has attributed the growth in trade to increased demand for refrigerated cargo from India coupled with improved trade relations with China. The demand for India-made goods such as vehicles, cereals and rice; supplemented by refrigerated cargo such as fish, seafood, vegetables and pharmaceuticals saw maximum growth in exports.While imports have maintained a stable growth of 9%, largely driven by substantial inflow of metals and paper.

Maersk: India Recording a 14% Upturn

India´s containerized trade with the BRICS´ nations trademarks a rise of 14 percent. Export trade from India to Brazil, China, Russia and South Africa in Q1 2018 increased 7,5 percent YOY from same period last year. South Africa turned to be Indian´s top trade partner.BRICS EXIM trade registers steady growth of 1.5 percent in Q1 2018 compared to Q1 2017. “Last year, the BRICS´ joint contribution to the world economy was 23.6 percent, and according to the International Monetary Fund’s predictions this is set to rise to 26.8 percent by 2022.

Maersk Cuts Landing Certificate Issuance Time

Mumbai, 25th April, 2016: Maersk Line India has taken a major leap towards simplifying the Landing Certificate process by drastically reducing the time of issuance to just 12 hours. The process requires the customers to request for the certificate and they will receive it via email. This simplified process of issuing the Landing Certificate will be effective from 1st May, 2016 and will provide a hassle free transaction experience for the customers. (I) Landing Certificate within half a day: A customer after requesting for a Landing Certificate will receive it via email within 12 hours after the submission of the application. (II) Fee waiver: To make it quick and simple for customers, Maersk Line has also removed the Landing Certificate charge of INR 1000 per certificate.

Maersk to Call at Kakinada

Maersk Line becomes the first liner to operate from Kakinada port which offers customers global coverage. Maersk Line India has added a new port of call into Kakinada connecting Colombo and onwards connectivity to West Africa and South Africa. Maersk line will  serve Kakinada through its Mesawa service, which is a direct weekly service from Jebel Ali, Mundra and Nhava Sheva to South and West Africa. Commenting on this development, Mr. Franck Dedenis, Managing Director, Maersk (India and Sri Lanka) said, “We are excited to announce the addition of Kakinada in the list of our port of call with a fixed vessel schedule. This is a continuation of our belief to be closer to our customers and grow with the market in a profitable manner. At present, no container facility is available at the port.

Maersk to Introduce Low Sulphur Surcharge

To offset the additional cost incurred by switching to cleaner fuels in Emission Control Areas, as required by the new regulation, Maersk Line will introduce a new Low Sulphur Surcharge (LSS). The surcharge will be effective from 1 January 2015 and affect all cargo with load port, transshipment and/or discharge port in Emission Control Areas. This is Maersk line’s ongoing commitment to sustainability by supporting the establishment of ECAs as a way to reduce air pollution from shipping. The Low Sulphur Surcharge (LSS) will be charged as a separate item on the costumers’ invoices. Tariff will be reviewed quarterly. To offset the additional cost incurred, Maersk Line will incorporate the higher average fuel costs into the existing standard bunker surcharge (SBF).

Deepak Shetty, Jt DG Shipping, addresses WISTA India at AGM

WISTA India conducted its second AGM on the 19th of September 2014, at the conference hall of the Narottam Morarjee Institute in Mumbai. The AGM was attended by 23 members of WISTA, and was presided over by WISTA India President, Ms Sanjam Sahi Gupta and the members of the Executive Committee. The AGM was followed by an open discussion session, where the Joint DG of Shipping, Mr Deepak Shetty, was invited to talk to the members and prospective members of the association. The discussions were centred around the realities in the maritime sector and the proposals for increasing women participation in the industry. Within the Europe, Middle East, region, ICTSI presently owns and operates container terminals at Gdynia, Rijeka, Batumi and Tartous. Before joining ICTSI, Hans-Ole Madsen was APM Terminals’ Vice President for Business Development in Africa, Middle East and Indian Sub-continent. From 2006 to 2008, he served as Chief Executive in South Asia for Maersk India. He also held various executive positions in Maersk offices in Nigeria, Pakistan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Denmark from 1985 to 2005.
