Maersk Oil Orders FSO from MODEC

Maersk Oil North Sea UK limited has contracted MODEC, Inc. to supply a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel for the Culzean development project in the U.K. Central North Sea. The contract awards MODEC responsibility for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the FSO, while the internal turret mooring system will be designed and supplied by MODEC subsidiary SOFEC, Inc. The FSO will feature receiving capacity of 25,000 barrels of condensate per day, with storage capacity of 350,000 barrels. MODEC president and CEO, Toshiro Miyazaki, noted that the new contract represents a milestone for the company as it marks MODEC's entry into the North Sea oil and gas industry. MODEC said it expects to deliver the complete unit to Maersk Oil UK in the first half of 2018.

Maersk Oil Hires Ampelmann Gangway System

After having performed a walk to work (W2W) campaign in the summer of 2014, Motion Compensation Gangways (MCG) developer Ampelmann has again been awarded a contract from Maersk Oil North Sea UK Limited (MOUK) covering the time charter of its A-Type. MOUK will use the Ampelmann system for a shutdown campaign in the U.K. sector of the central North Sea to extend the weather window and increase workability and efficiency. During the W2W campaign in 2014, MOUK was able to increase efficiency with approximately 25% compared to the 2013 W2W campaign by using the Ampelmann, the company noted.

BP & Maersk Oil Approve Front End

BP and its partner, Maersk Oil North Sea UK Limited, announced the approval of FEED (Front End Engineering and Design) for the Harding Area Gas Project. This is the first stage of a development project to allow the production of gas from the Harding area and prolong the life of the field beyond 2015. The project, which comprises a new gas processing platform bridge-linked to the existing Harding platform, will have the potential to process and export gas at rates of up to 400 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd). The project would also involve the subsea tie-back of the Devenick field and a gas export pipeline to connect the new gas platform to the existing Brae gas transmission pipeline. The final project approval decision is expected to be made around the end of the year.
