Atlas Copco Compressors Provide Air Power for RRS Sir David Attenborough

Atlas Copco's supply contract included training and commissioning, and all Atlas Copco equipment is suitable for 690V/3Ph/60Hz, or 220V/1Ph/60Hz electrical supplies used onboard the vessel. LR Awards Wärtsilä Cyber Certification

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has awarded Wärtsilä system-level cyber certification for its network architecture relating to Wärtsilä’s integrated main and auxiliary machinery. The LR’s ShipRight SAFE AL2 certification, which is with Wärtsilä’s Data Collection Unit (WDCU), gives Approval-in-Principle (AiP) for the entire Wärtsilä integrated system network, rather than for any individual component. DNV GL Boosts LPG as Fuel with Notation

Classification society DNV GL has developed new class rules and a class notation ‘Gas Fuelled LPG’ for using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as fuel in anticipation of growing industry interest ahead of IMO 2020 and overall decarbonization of the shipping industry.The Norway-based international accredited registrar and classification society said that the “Gas fueled LPG” for using LPG as fuel comes as a way of bridging the gaps present in international regulations for such fuels, with the exception of liquefied natural gas (LNG).Except for LNG, currently all gases and low-flashpoint fuels are subject to the ‘alternative design approach’…

LOC Launches Hull and Machinery Service

International marine and engineering consultancy LOC has launched a new Hull and Machinery (H&M) service, to be offered group-wide with specialist support from LOC’s main offices in London, Dubai, New York and Singapore. LOC notes that it already offers a range of marine services and supports all aspects of marine transportation and marine construction. The new H&M service will provide 24/7 marine casualty response support, covering everything from collisions and groundings, to fires, main and auxiliary machinery failures, main and auxiliary boiler failures to deck machinery failures. The company's H&M experts will attend salvage situations and conduct condition surveys in accordance with the Joint Hull Committee and Nordic formats.

First LNG-fuelled Bulker as per DNV GL New Rule Set

ESL Shipping’s new dual-fuelled bulk carriers will not only be the first large LNG-fuelled bulkers, but the first vessels constructed to the new DNV GL rule set, the classification society announced. Due for delivery in early 2018, the two 25,600 dwt vessels are optimized for trading in the Baltic Sea region. “It is fitting that the first vessels that will be constructed to the most forward looking set of classification rules are themselves at the cutting edge of maritime innovation,” said Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO of DNV GL – Maritime. “We have created these rules to be ready for the future and we have long pioneered the use of LNG as a ship fuel.

Deltamarin to Designs First LNG Handysize Bulk Carriers

Deltamarin Ltd proudly announces that it has signed a contract to design the world’s first LNG handysize bulk carriers, which will point the way towards greener shipping of commodities. The two B.Delta26LNG vessels will be constructed for the Finnish shipowner ESL Shipping Ltd by the Chinese Qingshan Shipyard of Sinotrans & CSC SBICO. Deltamarin’s contract with the Qingshan Shipyard covers basic and detail design, procurement handling and site assistance for the two vessels based on Deltamarin’s B.Delta26LNG design. International classification society Bureau Veritas has developed new guidelines covering the safe application of fuel cells on ships which could have important environmental and commercial advantages for shipowners and operators. News: New ASD Ship-Handling Tug Designed by Robert Allan

In December 2002, the high performance tug Altug was completed by Uzmar-Uzmanlar Shipping and Trading Company Ltd. of Izmir, Turkey. This tug is the first of the new ASD 32/80 Class design developed by Robert Allan Ltd., of Vancouver, BC. It was built under direction of the Owners at the Ge-Ta Shipyard Particulars of the new ASD 32/80 Class tug. The propulsion system comprises a pair of Deutz Model SBV 8M 628 diesel engines, each rated 1,750 kW at 1,000 rpm, driving Schottel SRP 1212 Z-drives through a system of Cardan shafting. This combination delivers a Bollard Pull of approximately 56 tons, and provides a full-load free running speed of 13.5 knots. The design is also configured to take higher power, capable of supporting a BP of approximately 80 tons.
