Maritime Subcontracting: 'Do it Right' for Successful Projects

Within the maritime sector not enough attention is paid to maritime subcontracting. And yet, it is as important as the main contracts that maritime main contractors conclude with their clients, such as shipping companies and buyers of superyachts. The same applies to the oil & gas and renewable energy industry. Thomas van Tol, co-founder of The Synergy Partner, writes: "As many maritime main contractors do not conclude contracts with their subcontractors in the right way, they take major risks for themselves as well as for their clients. Most of the time they are not aware of it.

Harland & Wolff to Build NnG Offshore Wind Farm Jackets in Methil, Creating 290 Jobs

InfraStrata's Harland & Wolff has won a contract with Saipem to build and load out eight wind turbine generator (WTG) jacket foundations for the EDF Renewables and ESB Energy-owned Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm project, located in the outer Firth of Forth in Scotland.The contract value is around £26million (~$35,7 million), with the contract scheduled to start from July 1, 2021.The works for fabrication, consolidation and load-out of the eight WTG jacket foundations will principally be conducted at Harland and Wolff's newly acquired Methil facilities in Scotland…

Burgess Marine wins Stamp of Approval for CE Marking

Britain’s largest independent ship repairer and marine engineering services provider Burgess Marine has improved its service offering by obtaining third party accreditation to CE Mark structural steel and aluminium fabrications, and by signing a framework agreement with design firm Houlder. CE Marking has become mandatory for all construction products where the product is covered by a harmonised European standard (hEN). BS EN 1090 is one such harmonised standard which covers structural steel and aluminium fabrication. Since July 2014, products within the scope of this standard must be CE Marked. Companies producing structural steel or aluminium fabrications which are being sold in the UK or the wider European Economic Area are legally required to CE Mark the product.

Marine Engineering Award for Maasvlakte 2

The construction of Maasvlakte 2 has been recognized by the award of the prof. dr. ir. J.F. Agema prize, which is awarded every five years to an innovative marine engineering work that was designed or constructed by a Dutch party. The prize, the initiative of the KIVI (Royal Institute of Engineers), goes to the entire team of client, designer and contractor, which in this case includes the Port of Rotterdam Authority and contractors Van Oord and Boskalis, as part of the PUMA consortium. The winner was announced on November 10 during the Waterbouwdag (Water Management Day) 2015 in Rotterdam.

Kongsberg Contracted to Support FLNG Conversion

Imtech Supplies HVAC System to Marathon Oil Platform

On December 19, 2014 Heerema Fabrication Group (Zwijndrecht) awarded Imtech Marine a contract to supply the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system to the 6,000-metric-ton Alba B3 Greenfield compression platform, which is currently under construction for Marathon E.G. Production Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corporation. Singapore's Kreuz Holdings Wins Sub-sea Contract

Kreuz Holdings Ltd. The work is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2012 for a duration of approximately three months, with option for further extension. Offshore O&M Expenditure Forecast: $335B in 5 Years

More than $335 billion worth of expenditure is expected over the next five years on offshore oil & gas operations & maintenance (O&M), according to a new report, The World Offshore Operations & Maintenance Market Forecast 2012-2016, by Douglas-Westwood (DW). Emerson Wins Contract

Emerson Process Management has supplied over 1500 Rosemount pressure and temperature transmitters for use in the Sakhalin II offshore oil and gas production project in the Sea of Okhotsk. Situated in Russia’s far east; Sakhalin Island, North of Japan, experiences environmental conditions which provide a challenge to measurement instrumentation, with extremes of ambient temperature (from -45 to +40C) and wide daily changes.
