Rábago, CG’s New Asst. Commandant for Acquisition

The U.S. Coast Guard named its new Assistant Commandant for Acquisition and its Chief Acquisition Officer June 15 and promoted that flag officer to rear admiral upper half. The Coast Guard's newest two-star admiral is Rear Adm. Ronald J. Rábago, a 1978 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy. Rábago previously served as the Coast Guard Program Executive Officer and Director of Acquisition Programs since the establishment of the Acquisition Directorate July 13, 2007. Coast Guard Cutter Welcomes New Commanding Officer

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Munro will hold a change of command ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday at Coast Guard Island. Capt. Robert L. Hurst, coming from the Naval War College, will assume command of the Munro from Capt. Brian J. O’Keefe. O’Keefe will transfer to Norfolk, Va., where he will assume the duties of Chief of the Electronics Systems Division at Coast Guard Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic.Cutter Munro was named after Douglas Munro, a Coast Guardsmen who gave his life rescuing stranded Marines during the World War II Battle of Guadalcanal and is the service’s only recipient of the Medal of Honor. Commissioned in 1971, the Munro is a versatile ship capable of accomplishing many missions, including maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and defense readiness.

Coast Guard Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic Welcomes New Commander

U.S. Coast Guard Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic (MLC LANT) will welcome its new Commander during a change-of-command ceremony at the Sheraton Waterside in Norfolk, VA, scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday March 9, 2007. Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Ronald T. Hewitt will relieve Rear Admiral Stephen W. Rochon. RADM Rochon will be retiring in May after more than 36 years of dedicated service to the United States Coast Guard, and has been selected by President Bush as the new Director of the Executive Residence and Chief Usher at the White House. RDML Hewitt most recently held the position of Assistant Commandant for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Information Technology, and Chief Information Officer, at U. S. Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
