Golden Ray Salvage Paused—Again

Salvage crews have once again paused operations to remove the Golden Ray wreck outside Georgia's Port of Brunswick, this time for "routine maintenance" on the equipment being used to cut and separate sections of the hulking overturned car carrier. Considered one of the most complex wreck removals in U.S. history, the project has been plagued by a number of setbacks since salvage operations commenced in 2019. Teams have already encountered delays relating to difficult environmental conditions…

Svitzer Bags 30-year Towing Deal in Costa Rica

Svitzer has entered a 30-year terminal towage contract to provide marine services for the new APMT Moin Container Terminal in Costa Rica, starting from the third quarter of 2017. In addition to supplying marine service, Svitzer will provide three 70TBP ASD tugs (two with FiFi 1), one pilot vessel and a maintenance barge for the Moin Container Terminal. Svitzer will also invest in local crew to train pilots and tug masters in its new training center in the Bahamas for the Moin Container Terminal. “The agreement with APMT was the result of a lengthy process where Svitzer assisted in all phases of the marine solution including simulations of the towage operations, determining size and layout of the turning basin and defining the optimal specifications of the tugboats.

Latest DoD Navy Contracts

Amongst the latest contracts Department of Defense, Navy, contracts are those to Armstrong Marine, for barges and ship paintwork maintenance; to  3PSC for operation & maintenance of naval survey ships; and to NASSCO for repairs & alterations to 'USS Kauffman' (FFG 59). Armstrong Marine Inc., Port Angeles, Wash., is being awarded a $38,362,181 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of marine paint and maintenance barges and associated installation, support, shipping and travel.

Topaz MOA for $29.5m Vessel Sale

Topaz Energy and Marine announced it entered into an MOA for the sale of its DP2 Diving Support Maintenance Barge, Team Siam, to Mermaid Offshore Services Ltd. The $29.5m sale is part of Topaz’s ongoing fleet upgrade programme towards new tonnage and a move towards more deepwater assets which is closely aligned with its long-term corporate strategy. The Dubai based marine services and oil and gas fabrication company, Topaz Energy and Marine, today announced the divestment of the Team Siam, a DP2 Diving Support Maintenance Barge to Mermaid Offshore Services Ltd. of Thailand.
