New Agreement to Kickstart Salem Offshore Wind Terminal

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), Crowley Wind Services and the City of Salem announced the transfer of ownership and an agreement for site improvements and ongoing operations for the Salem Offshore Wind Terminal.The agreement will kickstart the transformation of the site into the second port built specifically to support the construction of offshore wind farms in Massachusetts. Zero-Emission Adriatic Ship Project Underway

The Zero Emission Adriatic Ship (ZEAS) project has commenced, with 13 partners from various European Countries. The overall project grant from EU Horizon is over EUR 13.5 million, where over EUR 2.3 million is reserved to TECO 2030’s deliverable of 1.2MW of fuel cells for full vessel propulsion.The project focuses on a full-scale demonstration of a hydrogen fuel cell-powered system on a ship, tailored for operation in the Adriatic Sea's delicate marine ecosystem. WinGD and KSS Line Collaborate on Dual-Fuel Ammonia Engines for Gas Carriers

Swiss marine power company WinGD has signed a memorandum of understanding with KSS Line to explore X-DF-A engines for future newbuild projects. The companies will focus on 52cm- and 62cm-bore versions of the dual-fuel ammonia engines, suitable for midsize and very large gas carriers (VLGC). Norway;s Aibel has announced a pair of leadership appointments at its yard in Haugesund.The company said Friday that Lars Inge Hellestveit will take up the role of vice president of yard operations, joined by Hans Jørgen Alfsen as the yard's new fabrication manager. Both will enter the new roles with immediate effect.Hellestveit comes from the position as project manager for the upgrade of the Njord Bravo floating storage unit (FSU), while Alfsen has been construction manager on the second processing platform for Johan Sverdrup

Van Oord Inks Maintenance Deal with Wärtsilä

Finnish technology group Wärtsilä said it has expanded its partnership with Dutch marine contractor Van Oord with the signing of a nine-year renewal and extension to its Optimized Maintenance agreement. The new deal also expands on the original by adding Wärtsilä’s Expert Insight and Data Driven Maintenance solutions. Wärtsilä Helps Siem Offshore Cut Emissions, Fuel Consumption

Norwegian offshore vessel operator Siem Offshore has tapped Finnish maritime technology firm Wärtsilä to help it cut emissions and fuel consumption aboard two well intervention vessels.The two vessels, the Siem Helix 1 and Siem Helix 2, each operate with eight Wärtsilä 32 engines. The ships are operating in Brazil’s offshore oil fields.According to Wärtsilä, the 5-year agreement will ensure the optimal maintenance required to reduce the vessels’ fuel consumption and emissions

Wärtsilä, Hidrovias Group Ink Maintenance Deal

Wärtsilä and Hidrovias do Brasil signed a five-year Optimized Maintenance agreement on the fleet of eight pusher tugs operating in the rivers of South America. The agreement enables flexible maintenance planning and execution according to the real condition of the equipment, thus ensuring better lifecycle value for the vessels. Hidrovias pusher tugs offer high-quality logistic solutions for the transportation of agricultural commodities, ores, steel products and other loads, with customized long-term projects in the rivers of Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Vessels are operating in demanding shallow waters and remote locations, which makes maintenance planning and execution challenging for pusher tug operators.

US Invests $18.5 Mln in Offshore Wind Research

U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry announced $18.5 million in new Department of Energy (DOE) funding for a consortium that will conduct research aimed at reducing the cost of offshore wind in the U.S. As it seeks to capitalize on momentum in the offshore wind market, the U.S. still faces several challenges, such as deep water requiring floating foundations, the need for models predicting how Atlantic hurricanes will impact offshore turbines, and supply chain and operations and maintenance solutions to address the challenges of building and maintaining turbines at sea.

Marlink Acquires Radio Holland's Connectivity Business

Marlink and Radio Holland have concluded a partnership agreement whereby Marlink has acquired Radio Holland’s connectivity business. According to the partners, the deal strengthens Marlink’s position in maritime VSAT, while Radio Holland will be the preferred global sales and service partner offering Marlink’s satcom connectivity portfolio in combination with its maritime electronics solutions. Furthermore, Radio Holland and the Marlink Group, including Telemar, will intensify their existing cooperation in NavCom sales and servicing.

ABB has added ‘Fleet Intelligence’ to its ABB Ability Collaborative Operations software, providing marine customers with a single and complete overview of their ship system maintenance needs rather than being faced with piecemeal, standalone reporting solutions. Fleet Intelligence addresses a common shortcoming in ship efficiency, where data from manufacturer manuals provide the basis for the planned maintenance system, meaning that equipment is maintained to standards set by vendors rather than being based on the needs of customers.

Corvus, Scandlines Ink 10-year Service Deal

Corvus Energy said it has been awarded a 10-year service and maintenance agreement for the entire Scandlines hybrid ferry fleet. The contract includes both traditional service and maintenance of the fleets’ energy storage systems, plus Corvus’ remote condition-based monitoring service, Watchman. The first ferry operator to build and operate large ROPAX (roll-on/off passenger) hybrid ferries that combine traditional diesel power with advanced battery power, Scandlines utilizes Corvus’ lithium-ion based energy storage systems throughout the entire fleet to provide the battery power.

The event took place on board of the historical ship ss Rotterdam, in the port of Rotterdam where Radio Holland also has its headquarters. Hyde Marine is partnering with Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBS) for installation of the Hyde GUARDIAN Gold BWTS, for vessels docking at the yard. GBS, based in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, is one of the largest ship repair companies in the region with three floating docks for the drydocking and repair of all types of oceangoing vessels, and all the necessary support services required to perform complex repair, upgrade and conversion projects. Babcock to Support Aircraft Carrier Engineering

Babcock has been awarded a 12-month contract to assist in designing the engineering support solution for the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers. Under the £1.17 million contract the U.K. Ministry of Defense (MoD), Babcock and BAE Systems will work together to develop the optimum, fit-for-purpose engineering support solution for the new aircraft carriers, as part of the wider Support Development Phase. Babcock and BAE Systems will be involved in four support development phase work-streams – Class Management, Design Management, Maintenance Management and Information Knowledge Management. Under these work-streams Babcock and BAE Systems will design technical services and maintenance solutions to ensure the carriers are available for their operational requirements.

MAN D&T, CCS Ink Collaboration Deal at Marintec
