International law firm Ince & Co has announced that it has advised Fugro on a sale and lease back agreement with ICON Investments regarding two of its geotechnical drill ships Fugro Scout and Fugro Voyager. Teams searching the Indian Ocean for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 have discovered a previously uncharted shipwreck. Search vessel Fugro Equator’s deep tow system detected a cluster of small sonar contacts in the southern part of the search area, 12 nautical miles to the east of the 7th arc. The sonar data was carefully analyzed and categorized to be “of potential interest but unlikely to be related to MH370.” It could not, however, be ruled out, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said.

Malaysia is ready for greater collaboration and cooperation with China with regard to Maritime Silk Road (MSR) proposal delivered by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said that his Ministry has identified a few ports in Malaysia to be part of the MSR. The sources in the Ministry said that Malaysian side is supportive on the incentive of building the Maritime Silk Road and have been keeping an open mind on it. Malaysia is a trading nation, and it has a number of sea ports, including, for example, Port Klang. Malaysia is in the process of developing port cities collaboration between Qinzhou Port (of China) and the Kuantan Port (of Malaysia).

An additional Fugro vessel has been commissioned to carry out underwater search activities for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, the company announced. Multipurpose offshore survey vessel Fugro Supporter is on its way to the Southern Indian Ocean search area, having conducted trials in Bali. Defense force personnel from Australia are in China for Exercise Cooperation Spirit 2014 which begins today. The exercise aims to enhance coordination and cooperation between Australia, China and New Zealand in responding to unforeseen disasters that occur in the Asia-Pacific. Dutch marine services company Fugro NV has warned that weakness in the oil and gas industry, combined with technical difficulties, meant its results for the first half would fall short of expectations, hammering its shares. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has awarded Fugro a contract that will see the deployment of its specialist vessel, equipment and expertise in the underwater search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370 (MH370). Using its advanced survey vessel, the Fugro Equator, fitted with state-of-the art multibeam echosounder equipment, Fugro will conduct a bathymetric survey of the search area. The seabed data obtained will assist in the production of maps of the seabed offshore Western Australia.

Malaysia has spent a total of 27.6 million ringgit ($8.6 million) so far on the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, authorities said on Monday, giving a specific cost figure for the first time.
