An ailing shore labor worker was medevaced off an Indian-flagged bulk carrier Thursday near Pointe a la Hache, La., the U.S. Coast Guard said.The Coast Guard said its watchstanders at Sector New Orleans received a call at approximately 10 a.m. stating a man on board Great Eastern's Kamsarmax bulker Jag Arnav was unresponsive due to unknown circumstances.A spokesperson for Great Eastern Shipmanagement said the man is a shore laborer who was not feeling well while performing hatch cleaning at Magnolia anchorage on the Mississippi River.

The Irish Coast Guard coordinated a successful Marine Search and Rescue demonstration on Saturday 16th July. The exercise in Moville Co Donegal involved some of Ireland’s principal Search and Rescue resources. Participants included Donegal based volunteer Coast Guard units, the Sligo based Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter, Naval ship LÉ Orla,  Air Corps Casa, RNLI’s new Shannon Class All Weather Lifeboat, Bord Iascaigh Mhara, UK Maritime Coastguard Agency, Irish Water Safety, Mountain Rescue Ireland and the Civil Defence. The event included a series of water based safety demonstrations: “Prevention and adherence to basic safety is the key element in minimising loss of life at sea and on our waterways”, concluded SARs Manager Gerard O’Flynn.

U.S. Coast Guard crews conducted a MEDEVAC of a 74-year-old man from a 35-foot sailboat involved in the Bell's Beer Bayview Mackinac Race early Sunday morning on northern Lake Huron. The man's name is not being released by the Coast Guard and there is no video or imagery available for this case. Just before 6:30 a.m., the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Alder, homeported in Duluth, Minnesota, and deployed to assist with the race, was contacted by the sailboat stating that a crew member had lost consciousness for approximately three minutes and had a history of heart issues. Alder diverted to assist and it was determined by the on-call Coast Guard flight surgeon that a MEDEVAC was necessary.

The largest brig to be built in the U.K. in a century sailed into in a Greenock dry dock yesterday for general maintenance and essential winter repairs. The Stavros S Niarchos has arrived at the Garvel Clyde site, which is owned by Aberdeen-based Dales Marine Services, after a Liverpool to Glasgow youth voyage by the Tall Ships Trust. The sail training vessel, which has an 18th Century-designed brig with 18 sails on two masts and was commissioned in 2000, had a youth voyage on board for the journey and will have adults on the return leg.

Dacon announced it has again been contracted to deliver its Dacon Rescue Scoop to a service vessel in the offshore wind industry. 1775-This is the date that the Navy recognizes as it's "official" birthday. The United States Navy traces its origins to the Continental Navy, which the Continental Congress established on 13 October 1775 by authorizing the procurement, fitting out, manning, and dispatch of two armed vessels to cruise in search of munitions ships supplying the British Army in America. The legislation also established a Naval Committee to supervise the work. All together, the Continental Navy numbered some fifty ships over the course of the war, with approximately twenty warships active at its maximum strength. After the American War for Independence, Congress sold the surviving ships of the Continental Navy and released the seamen and officers.

The Coast Guard is searching for a 26-year-old Myanmarese crewmember reported to have fallen overboard from the 792-ft container ship Cap Gilbert approximately 450 miles south of Adak Island Jan. 25. The Coast Guard 17th District command center in Juneau was notified of the missing man at approximately 8:20 p.m. and issued an urgent marine information broadcast requesting the assistance of any vessels in the area. A Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew was launched at approximately 10:16 p.m. from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak. The HC-130 aircraft arrived on scene at approximately 1 a.m. joining the crew of the Cap Gilbert in the search. No signs of the man were found over night. A second Hercules aircrew departed Air Station Kodiak at about 8 a.m. Jan.
