The Marine Group Grows Its Dredging Fleet

The Marine Group’s Harbor Management Division has expanded its dredging capabilities with the recent completion of its bespoke built water injection dredger CMS Seaka. GC Rieber Shipping CEO Christian Wilhelm Berg Resigns

Norwegian shipping company GC Rieber Shipping said that Christian Wilhelm Berg resigned the position as CEO with effect from 14 September 2018 in order to pursue other opportunities through his wholly owned company, Bech Offshore.Bech Offshore was set up in 2017 with the concept to initiate investment opportunities related to distressed assets within the Offshore Support Segment. Further, the company offered third party owners Commercial Management, Consultancy Services and in-depth market know-how.The activities of Bech Offshore was acquired by and integrated into GC Rieber Shipping when Christian Wilhelm Berg commenced as CEO, but will now be sold back to Bech Offshore.The Board of GC Rieber Shipping will initiate a process to recruit a new permanent CEO.

Waldner Appointed LR's Group CFO

Global engineering, technical and business services organisation, Lloyd’s Register (LR), has announced the appointment of Mary Waldner as Group CFO. Mary is currently Group Finance Director at FTSE 250 listed defence, security, transport and energy company Ultra Electronics and replaces Alastair Marsh’s as LR’s Group CFO following his appointment as CEO of the Lloyd’s Register group in October 2015. Mary has a broad range of experience in a variety of sectors and an excellent track record of delivery throughout a number of senior financial roles with major public limited companies. After graduating from Oxford University with an MA in Physics, Mary started her career at Coopers & Lybrand Management Consultancy Services, before working for Vauxhall Motors Ltd.

Houlder Secures Major New International Contract

U.K. employee-owned business, Houlder has been awarded a three year contract to deliver Project Management Consultancy services to Libya’s Mellitah Oil and Gas B.V. (MOG) in relation to the design, construction, delivery and hook-up of a new Floating Storage and Offloading System (FSO) and associated subsea systems. The new Gaza FSO will replace the existing Sloug FSO which has been on site since 1989. The contract win will secure up to 30 high value marine industry jobs for the duration of the project. Lloyd's Register Acquires India's Reltech Consulting

Lloyd’s Register has acquired the business and principal assets of the Mumbai-based nuclear risk specialists, Reltech Consulting (Reltech), in a move designed to further strengthen its historic presence in the Indian energy sector. The business and assets of Reltech, which provides safety-management services to a multinational civil nuclear client base, have been transferred to the newly formed LR Scandpower Risk Consultancy Pvt. Ltd., completing another major step in the strategic expansion of Lloyd’s Register’s global nuclear business. Scandpower AS, which provides independent technical risk services to the energy and transport industries, was purchased by Lloyd’s Register in 2009.

Two leading companies have come together in a joint venture company, Marine Accident & Risk Consultants (MARC), to provide a comprehensive suite of marine safety management consultancy services. MARC brings together the capabilities of ConsultISM Ltd - an independent organization specializing in the management of marine safety and control of operational risk, and RTI Ltd - specializing in accident investigation and risk management in the marine, aviation and other high risk industries.

Goodearth Maritime to Build Shipyard

According to reports, Goodearth Maritime is planning to build a shipyard on the east coast of the country with Korea Maritime Consultants Limited (Komac). The first phase of the project is expected to cost about $250 million, and will see tankers as large as 100,000 deadweight tons being built. Phase two will accommodate supertanker orders and the new yard could build up to 12 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) a year, reports said. The yard, along with Komac, a private South Korean company of naval architects and marine engineers -- which is expected to build tankers, bulk vessels and chemical carriers -- is slated to start construction in about 15 months.
