Wärtsilä Extends Service Agreement with WinGD
Wärtsilä said it has signed a 10-year service partnership agreement with the Swiss company Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd. (WinGD), a developer of two-stroke low-speed gas and diesel engines used for propulsion power in merchant shipping. The new partnership agreement appoints Wärtsilä as an authorized global service provider for all WinGD products and provides WinGD and its customers continued access to Wärtsilä’s worldwide service network and comprehensive services offering. NNS Employee Gains 'Woman of Distinction' Award
Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) employee is honored with a YWCA Women of Distinction Award. Stephanie Simmons, director of Navy Program Operations, was recognized in the science and technology category at a ceremony at Christopher Newport University. In choosing the YWCA Women of Distinction Award recipients, a selection committee takes into consideration the nominees' professional and civic achievements, as well as how the nominees exemplify the values and mission of the organization.
US Navy Awards BIW $39m for DDG 1000 Class Services
The U.S. Navy awarded General Dynamics Bath Iron Works a $38.9m modification to a previously awarded contract to perform class and engineering services associated with the detail design and construction of DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class ships. Bath Iron Works will continue to provide manufacturing support services such as engineering, design, production control, accuracy control and information technology. Other class-support efforts include program management, contract and financial management, procurement and configuration/data management. The original contract was awarded in September 2011. Work is expected to be completed by October 2013.

The Navy will soon enter a new era of ship construction in Bath, Maine. The introduction of an innovative construction and launching platform brings some of the most modern warship building methods in the world to Bath Iron Works and the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). May 5 marks the first official use of what is known as the Land Level Transfer Facility (LLTF). The day will see the keel laying of the future USS CHAFEE (DDG 90), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, co-sponsored by Mrs. John Chafee, widow of the Honorable John Chafee, a former Secretary of the Navy and Senator from Rhode Island, along with Mrs. Diane Blair, wife of Admiral Dennis Blair, Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Command.
