MPC Honors Crowley for Tank Vessel Safety

USCG Presents William M. Benkert Awards

Vice Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Vice Adm. Peter Neffenger presented the 2014 Rear Adm. William Benkert Awards at the American Petroleum Institute's (API) annual tanker conference Thursday. The award is given to support and recognize maritime industry efforts for their environmental protection programs. This biennial award was started in 1995 and honors industry leaders in the field of marine safety and environmental protection and provides an opportunity for the Coast Guard to recognize leadership, innovation and creativity found among those members of the maritime industry. Crowley Christens Articulated Tug-Barge

Crowley Maritime Corporation christen the 16,000-horsepower tugboat 'Legend' and 330,000-barrel tank barge 750-2 in Tampa, Florida. Together the vessels comprise the company’s newest articulated-tug-barge  (ATB) and will be used to transport petroleum products between the U.S. Gulf and East Coasts, making regular port calls in Tampa where Crowley currently discharges nearly 163 million gallons of product each month. Coast Guard Honors Protectors of Marine Environment

The U.S. Coast Guard announced the seven recipients of the 2010 Biennial Rear Adm. William M. Benkert, Marine Environmental Protection Award for Excellence, during an awards program at the American Petroleum Institute Tanker Conference held in San Diego. The award recognizes companies involved in marine facility or vessel operations that have demonstrated sustained excellence and outstanding achievement in protecting the marine environment. It also encourages innovations in operations, maintenance, cargo handling, refueling, training, and provides a means for award recipients to share their successful methods and techniques with others in industry. Crowley Christens New ATB Tank Vessel

Crowley Maritime Corporation christened the seventh of 10 new 185,000-barrel Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels that the company will take delivery of in 2010 and 2011. The vessels christened were the tug Pride and barge 650-7. During the ceremonies, which took place at the Port of New Orleans, Cruise terminal #2, Susan Rodgers, Crowley senior vice president of corporate services christened the 10,728 Hp-tug Pride, while Rita McKain, wife of Bradley McKain, manager, terminal, transport and marine for Marathon Petroleum Company, christened the barge 650-7.

Keppel Clinches FPSO Conversion Contract

Keppel Shipyard, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation Ltd, has secured a Floating Production Storage & Offloading (FPSO) hull conversion contract worth S$84 million from Marathon Petroleum Company (Norway) on MST Odin. The 87,000 dwt multi-purpose shuttle tanker arrived at Keppel Shipyard for the fast track hull conversion on 19 March. Odin will undergo hull upgrading and modification works which involve procurement, construction and installation of the FPSO hull equipment, including shipboard marine systems, cargo, ballast, inert gas, crude oil washing, fire fighting and electrical and instrumentation. IBIA Delegates Warned of Costs of Unfeasible Distillates Switch

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) was told at its annual convention in Montreal this month that a new report estimates that it would cost $67b over the next five years to implement a wholesale switch from traditional bunker fuels to distillates only for the world merchant fleet. The distillates-only option was also described as “unfeasible”, due to lack of sufficient refining capacity. Keppel Shipyard Delivers FPSO Alvheim

Keppel Shipyard, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd, delivered FPSO Alvheim, its first Floating Production and Storage Offloading (FPSO) facility for Marathon Petroleum Company (Norway) (MPC). Previously known as MST ODIN, the 87,000 dwt multi-purpose shuttle tanker was contracted to Keppel Shipyard at $84 million for hull upgrading and structural modifications. The scope of work involved procurement; construction and installation of the FPSO hull equipment; fabrication and installation of topside module support structures and green water protection; and modification of the mid-ship moon pool into a cargo tank, turret cone and support structures and caissons for seawater lift pumps.
