Singapore and Rotterdam Port Authorities to Establish Green and Digital Corridor

Allard Castelein (CEO Port of Rotterdam Authority), Ahmed Aboutaleb (Mayor of Rotterdam), S. Iswaran (Minister of Transport and Trade Relations Singapore) and Quah Ley Hoon (CEO Maritime and Port Authority Singapore).

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the world’s longest Green and Digital Corridor to enable low and zero carbon shipping.Signed by Quah Ley Hoon, Chief Executive of MPA, and Allard Castelein, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre on the sidelines of the biennial World Cities Summit, the MoU will bring together stakeholders across the supply chain to realize the first sustainable vessels sailing on the route by 2027.

NYK Celebrates O3 Challenge

The “Ocean of Opportunities Challenge”  (O3 Challenge), a worldwide contest aimed at creating new value through open innovation in the maritime industry, has been successfully celebrated by NYK Group.This was the second consecutive year for the challenge, which is planned and conducted by NYK Group companies Symphony Creative Solutions Pte. Ltd. (SCS) and Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE), together with NUS Enterprise.The contest began in February with ONE issuing six challenges related to its work processes. Heerema Unveils World's Largest Offshore Crane Vessel

Dutch firm Heerema Marine Contractors and Singapore's Sembcorp Marine, on Thursday, showed off the world's largest crane vessel that can be used for the setup and decommissioning of offshore oil and gas facilities.The semi-submersible vessel, which cost Heerema about $1.5 billion, is equipped with two cranes that can reach a height of 220 metres, taller than the top of Singapore's iconic boat-shaped Marina Bay Sands hotel. BASS Launches New Fleet Management System

BASS introduced the BASSnet 2.9 Fleet Management System during the recent Asia Pacific Maritime event in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. BASSnet 2.9 now features new modules such as Environmental Management, Port Forms Management and Excel Forms Management. Norwegian Seminar to Focus on Financing, Procurement

The challenges of managing efficient procurement  processes and getting the right funding in the shipping and offshore sectors is the topic for a major half day conference in Singapore later this month. Coinciding with the Asia Pacific Maritime (APM) event on March 20, the Norwegian Procurement and Finance seminar is aimed at operators seeking to build vessels, capital goods or services within the shipping and offshore industries, or Norwegian exporters in these fields. The session will also see the release of a major report into procurement processes in Asia which was commissioned by the Norwegian Oil and Gas Partners (INTSOK) organization. The main findings will be revealed at the event.

UKHO to Hold ECDIS Workshops in Singapore

The United Kingdom (UKHO) Hydrographic Office announced its plans for a series of ECDIS Workshops during the Sea Asia 2013 Conference in Singapore. Hyundai Merchant Marine Secures US$500 million debt facility from banks led by DNB. South Korean shipping group Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has secured a USD500 million debt facility from a syndicate of financial institutions led by DNB Bank. A signing ceremony to close the facility was held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The facility will be used by HMM to fund the construction of five mega container vessels being built at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering which are scheduled to be delivered throughout 2014.

Sea Asia 2011 Ends - Record breaking 12,167 Participants

Sea Asia 2011 ended on a high note this evening with a clutch of records broken at what is now confirmed as Asia’s leading maritime conference and exhibition. As Sea Asia closed at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, it was revealed by the organisers that 12,167 people attended the three-day event this week. Over 90% of visitors surveyed agreed that Sea Asia 2011 is a leading and prestigious industry event. The number, comprising visitors, exhibitors, conference delegates, speakers and media, was announced as the dates for the next Sea Asia were confirmed.

“Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds” Opens in Singapore

One of the oldest and most important marine archaeological finds of the late 20th century was unveiled to the public February 19, 2011, when the much-anticipated Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds exhibition opens in Singapore, at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands. The exhibition is jointly organized by the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Smithsonian), the Asian , ; the National Heritage Board (NHB), and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). Shipwrecked relates the story of an astonishing cargo of some 60,000 objects carried from China by a ninth-century Arab dhow, presenting a dynamic tale of trade between China and West Asia along the maritime silk route. The cargo had lain undisturbed on the ocean floor for more than 1,000 years before its discovery near 's in 1998.
