The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the world’s longest Green and Digital Corridor to enable low and zero carbon shipping.Signed by Quah Ley Hoon, Chief Executive of MPA, and Allard Castelein, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre on the sidelines of the biennial World Cities Summit, the MoU will bring together stakeholders across the supply chain to realize the first sustainable vessels sailing on the route by 2027.

The “Ocean of Opportunities Challenge”  (O3 Challenge), a worldwide contest aimed at creating new value through open innovation in the maritime industry, has been successfully celebrated by NYK Group.This was the second consecutive year for the challenge, which is planned and conducted by NYK Group companies Symphony Creative Solutions Pte. Dutch firm Heerema Marine Contractors and Singapore's Sembcorp Marine, on Thursday, showed off the world's largest crane vessel that can be used for the setup and decommissioning of offshore oil and gas facilities.The semi-submersible vessel, which cost Heerema about $1.5 billion, is equipped with two cranes that can reach a height of 220 metres, taller than the top of Singapore's iconic boat-shaped Marina Bay Sands hotel. Shipowners continue to face major challenges with the impending ratification of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Ballast Water Management Convention (BWMC). Hyundai Merchant Marine Secures US$500 million debt facility from banks led by DNB. South Korean shipping group Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has secured a USD500 million debt facility from a syndicate of financial institutions led by DNB Bank. A signing ceremony to close the facility was held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The facility will be used by HMM to fund the construction of five mega container vessels being built at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering which are scheduled to be delivered throughout 2014.

Sea Asia 2011 ended on a high note this evening with a clutch of records broken at what is now confirmed as Asia’s leading maritime conference and exhibition. As Sea Asia closed at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, it was revealed by the organisers that 12,167 people attended the three-day event this week. Over 90% of visitors surveyed agreed that Sea Asia 2011 is a leading and prestigious industry event. One of the oldest and most important marine archaeological finds of the late 20th century was unveiled to the public February 19, 2011, when the much-anticipated Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds exhibition opens in Singapore, at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands.
