Kongsberg Tech for Peruvian Arctic Research Vessel

Kongsberg Maritime has been chosen to deliver an integrated subsea technology systems package including two HUGIN Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) for a new Peruvian Navy Hydrographic & Oceanographic research vessel. The 97 meter BAP Carrasco’is built at Construcciones Navales P. Freire shipyard in Vigo, Spain. The advanced new research ship will have Polar capability and be classified with PC7 notation to perform research in Peruvian waters, in order to fulfill Peru’s commitment under the Antarctic Treaty.

World ENC Charts Now in Nuno Navigator

CherSoft’s professional navigation software Nuno Navigator now has access to a full portfolio of ENC charts from PRIMAR. ENC charts have traditionally been limited to ECDIS systems. Now, Nuno Navigator is bringing professional quality charts to smaller workboats, back offices, pilots, rig movement specialists and wherever a more complex and expensive ECDIS is not required. According to its developers, Nuno Navigator is particularly attractive to professionals needing a portable navigation system, who can travel with ENC charts on a rugged laptop.

OceanWise: New Office, New Recruits

Independent marine data management, publishing and GIS specialist, OceanWise, has moved into new offices in Alton, Hampshire to support the further expansion of its business. In addition, OceanWise recruited two new members into its team. Richard Farren joins from HR Wallingford, where he was SeaZone’s Marine Mapping Production Manager. He joins OceanWise as a Systems Developer and will help OceanWise deliver a growing number of Maritime Information Infrastructure projects. Janet Chaplin also joins from HR Wallingford and will transfer her previous role as SeaZone’s Customer Services Manager to OceanWise. www.oceanwise.eu

OceanWise Delivers Maritime Information Infrastructure to Clydeport

Independent marine data management, publishing and GIS specialist, OceanWise Ltd, has completed phase one of a maritime information infrastructure on behalf of Clydeport. The project builds on Clydeport’s recent investment in GIS software and was targeted at improving data and information management within the Hydrographic and Dredging Department. The project is already realising tangible benefits and gaining a lot of interest from within the Marine Department as a whole and elsewhere in the port.

Spanish Research Vessels to get Kongsberg and Simrad Systems

The Spanish sales division for Simrad and Kongsberg Maritime have signed contracts for one of its biggest projects to date; the supply and installation of navigation, positioning and research systems on two newbuilds for the Spanish Oceanographic Institute (I.E.O). The twin 45m research vessels are specifically designed for research on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastal areas although both will call the home. The first vessel is expected to be delivered in December 2009 and the second, a year later in December 2010.

MISTgroup Launches VTSS-Advanced

MISTgroup announces the launch of VTSS-advanced, a configurable version of its flagship Vessel Terminal Synergy System (VTSS) software. VTSS-advanced provides the maritime community with a universal portal to store vessel and terminal data. The system enables a vessel and/or terminal to submit required data to Port Authorities, create automated questionnaires, and control access to proprietary data. VTSS-advanced has built in functionality to perform vessel and terminal evaluations, advanced queries, and trend analysis. The system is designed to enhance existing safety/quality assurance systems and provides distinguishable control between internal sensitive data versus shared accessibility.
