Glosten Tapped to Design Scripps' New Hydrogen-hybrid Research Vessel

UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography today announced that naval architecture and marine engineering company Glosten has been selected as the naval architect for the university’s new California coastal research vessel. Beth Rooney Named Director of Port of New York and New Jersey

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced Beth Rooney has been named Director of the Port Department, taking over for Sam Ruda who is departing to return to the West Coast.A maritime industry veteran, Rooney will assume the role on May 2 following three years as the ports Deputy Director and more than three decades of experience. She has been with the Port Department since 1993.Together, Ruda and Rooney have led the East Coast’s busiest and largest seaport, and third in the nation behind the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach.

As reported in a Maritime Reporter and Engineering News February 2022 article, Offshore Wind Development Gains Speed in the United States, the offshore wind (OSW) market is beginning to heat up. The White House policy target of 30 GW of offshore wind power by 2030, increasing the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM’s) leasing awards, and permitting target approval dates, together with more state energy procurement awards, are creating demand for more port infrastructure, Jones Act compliant vessels, and manufacturing facilities for wind farm components.

Empire Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Equinor and bp, awarded a contract to Maersk Supply Service for charter of its newbuild wind installation vessel (WIV). Kirby Announces 2019 Q2 Financials

Kirby Corporation (“Kirby”) (NYSE: KEX) has announced net earnings attributable to Kirby for the second quarter ended June 30, 2019 of $47.3 million, or $0.79 per share, compared with earnings of $28.6 million, or $0.48 per share, for the 2018 second quarter. Excluding a one-time charge related to the retirement of Kirby’s Executive Chairman, 2018 second quarter net earnings attributable to Kirby were $46.8 million, or $0.78 per share. Two Newbuilds Delivered to Virgin Islands Port Authority

Louisiana-based shipbuilder Metal Shark said it has delivered two custom welded aluminum vessels to the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA).The new vessels, a 45-foot pilot boat and a 32-foot port security vessel, were designed by Metal Shark and built at the company’s Jeanerette, La. production facility. Both vessels were recently delivered to St. Thomas and transferred to VIPA and are now operating from the Edward Wilmoth Blyden IV Marine Facility on the Charlotte Amalie waterfront where they serve the island of St. Thomas and nearby St.

DP World Wins Congo Port Concession

DP World, the Dubai-based ports operator, announced it has won a 30-year concession for the management and development of a port project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The deal gives DP World an option to extend its management and development for a further 20 years, and is for a greenfield multi-purpose port at Banana. "The Port of Banana will be the first deep-sea port in the country along its small coastline of 37 kilometres, which currently only has the riverine port of Matadi," said a statement. DP World will set up a joint venture with 70% control, and the government of DRC holding a 30% share, to manage and invest in the Port of Banana.

Skangas to Source LNG at Import Terminal on Isle of Grain

Skangas has announced that it has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with National Grid Grain LNG. Under the terms of the LoI, Skangas is to source LNG at the Grain LNG import terminal on the Isle of Grain in the UK. Skangas, which produces LNG, struck the deal with Grain LNG to ensure a reliable supply of LNG is available, which is critical to the fast-growing small-scale LNG market. As a result of this recent development, Skangas becomes the first small-scale LNG supplier to enter into such an agreement with a UK-based import terminal. Grain LNG, which operates primarily as a large-scale import terminal, is firmly committed to developing an LNG break bulk marine facility to make it possible for small vessels to reload and bunker LNG.

Strategic Marine Building Luxury Crewboat

Strategic Marine announced the kick-off of its first collaboration with PT. Pelayaran Tanjung Kumawa, expecting to deliver an exclusive luxury crewboat in November this year. “The vessel is currently under construction at Strategic Marine’s facility in Vietnam,” said Rob Boersma, Senior Business Development Manager of Strategic Marine. The luxury crewboat will transfer crews from shore to LNG and natural gas processing plant in Indonesia’s oil and gas industry. Strategic Marine is working closely with Incat Crowther, the naval architect company appointed, to ensure the designs meeting all specific requirements. “This is Strategic’s first collaboration with PT.

Bouchard Transportation Co. celebrated the naming of the M/V Donna J. Bouchard and the B. No. 272 at the christening ceremony held on Thursday, February 18 in New Orleans. The ceremony began with remarks from Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc. President/CEO, Morton S. Bouchard III, followed by VT Halter Marine and ExxonMobil/SeaRiver Maritime. Vessel sponsor Joan Lesniewski, wife of Robert Lesniewski of ExxonMobil/SeaRiver Maritime, performed the ceremonious breaking of the champagne bottles as executives from Bouchard, VT Halter Marine and several of Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc.

VT Halter Delivers ATB Tug to Bouchard

VT Halter Marine, Inc. announced the delivery of the M/V Morton S. Bouchard Jr., the first of the two 6,000 horsepower Twin Screw Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) tugs to Bouchard Transportation Co. Inc. Measuring 130 feet by 38 feet by 22 feet, the M/V Morton S. Bouchard Jr. is classed by ABS as +A1 Ocean Towing, Dual Mode ATB, USCG Subchapter C and is equipped with an Intercon Coupler System. The vessel was launched on October 29, 2015 at the Moss Point Marine facility in Escatawpa, Miss. Both M/V Morton S. Bouchard Jr. and M/V Frederick E.

Port of Beaumont Celebrates Centennial

2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the Port of Beaumont, a major deepwater port in Southeast Texas. A series of celebrations and public events began October 20th, when the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce presented the port with its Spindletop Award for outstanding corporate citizenship. A record crowd of 800 people were on hand for the 112th annual Chamber meeting, where keynote speaker, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, saluted the port for 100 years of service. Port officials have planned a number of events over the next six months to commemorate the Centennial.

Otto Shipyard Eyes Expansion in Asia

Otto Marine Limited, an offshore marine company specializing in building complex offshore support vessels, ship chartering and offers specialized offshore services, has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Otto Marine Shipyard Pte Ltd, has entered into a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with a port operator to explore the potential development of a fabrication and marine facility. The proposed development is strategically located in close proximity to Singapore and to the South East Asia region oil and gas fields. Otto Shipyard currently operates a 65 hectare shipyard through its sister company PT. Batamec. The Proposed Development will use a fraction of the yard space and is not expected to cause any disruption on PT. Batamec's existing shipyard facilities.

VT Halter Launches Barge for Bouchard

VT Halter Marine, Inc. (VT Halter Marine), a company of Vision Technologies Systems, Inc. (VT Systems) and Bouchard Transportation Co. announced that Barge B. No. 272 was launched on November 20, 2015. This is the second barge of two Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) units constructed for Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc. Measuring 628 feet by 91 feet by 47 feet, the barge B. No. 272 has a 250,000-barrel capacity, and is ABS and USCG certified for Jones Act service. When completed, the barge will be paired with the tug, M/V Donna J.

Engine manufacturer Perkins hires Andrew Goldspink to succeed retiring general manager Steve Phillips. After 30 years at engine manufacturer Perkins, Steve Phillips has elected to retire from his role as General Manager of the company’s marine facility in Wimborne. Over his years at Perkins, Phillips has held leadership roles in Parts and Service (London), Marine Service Manager for the Asia Pacific region (Singapore), through to his current role as General Manager (Wimborne, UK).

Shipbuilder VT Halter Marine, Inc. and Bouchard Transportation Co. Inc. announced the launch of M/V Morton S. Bouchard Jr., a 6,000hp Twin Screw Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) tug, on October 29, 2015. The M/V Morton S. Bouchard Jr. is part of a two-vessel contract awarded to the shipyard in August 2014. M/V Morton S. Bouchard Jr. and M/V Frederick E. Bouchard, are being constructed at VT Halter Marine’s Moss Point Marine facility in Escatawpa, Mississippi, with delivery expected in January 2016 and May 2016, respectively.

Reflex Marine, a specialist in offshore personnel access by crane, will exhibit its FROG-XT transfer device range for the first time at the 41st SPE Offshore Europe Conference & Exhibition from the September 8-11 in Aberdeen. Having unveiled the prototype in at OE in 2013, Reflex Marine will now show the finished product at this years’ show. The FROG-XT offers operators a flexible solution to their personnel transfer needs with a choice of four-, six- and 10-person capacity devices.

Oceangoing petroleum barge company Bouchard Transportation Co. celebrated the christening of two new vessels, M/V Kim M. Bouchard and B. No. 270, in New Orleans. The B. No. 270 was launched at VT Halter Shipyard Operations in Pascagoula, Miss., earlier this year, and the tug Kim M. Bouchard was launched at the Moss Point Marine facility in Escatawpa, Mississippi. It is named after the older sister of Morton S. Bouchard III, President/CEO of Bouchard Transportation. Constructed independently of each other, and now paired, the M/V Kim M. Bouchard and B. No.

VT Halter Launches Barge for Bouchard Transportation

Bouchard Transportation Co., announced the launch of Barge B. No. 270, the first of two Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) units constructed by VT Halter Marine, Inc., a company of Vision Technologies Systems, Inc. The barge was launched at the Pascagoula Shipyard Operations in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on Friday, May 1, 2015, following the launch of tug Kim M. Bouchard, part of the ATB unit, at the Moss Point Marine facility in Escatawpa, Mississippi, on February 26, 2015. When paired, Kim M. Bouchard and Barge B. No. 270 will be delivered to Bouchard as part of its ongoing fleet expansion program.
