Green methanol manufacturer Carbon Sink is partnering with Jones Act-compliant shipping company Rose Cay Maritime (RCM) to build out an end-to-end low-carbon marine fuel supply chain.The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) outlining a plan for increasing green fuel production, transportation, bunkering and storage specifically tailored for the shipping sector. Proman Stena Bulk, the joint venture between tanker company Stena Bulk and methanol producer Proman, announced the successful completion of the first ever barge-to-ship methanol bunkering on the U.S. Gulf Coast.The JV tankers Stena Pro Marine and Stena Prosperous were refueled with methanol via barge while discharging clean petroleum products at a terminal in the Port of Houston in the first week of April.Stena Pro Marine was bunkered with 1,408MT of methanol, and Stena Prosperous was refueled with 1,203MT during the operation.

Marine Energy Consulting Ltd. (MECL) and 20|20 Marine Energy, two leading consultancies in this field, today announced that they will collaborate to produce a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of MARPOL Annex VI global sulphur regulations on the shipping industry. The study will include a detailed impact assessment of the regulations, as well as insights into compliance solutions, enabling recipients to make more informed decisions when developing strategies to both manage the transition, and the future. The regulations, which mandate the use of bunkers with a sulphur content of less than 0.5% on a global basis, will be implemented in either 2020 or 2025…

OW Bunker has entered into a partnership with Petrocosta CI SA, a Colombian fuel marketing and transportation company. The agreement will further develop OW Bunker’s physical distribution network of marine fuel in Colombia and support its growth across Latin America. Petrocosta’s responsibilities will include the sourcing, blending, storage and transportation of marine fuel products. OW Bunker will handle the sale and marketing of products through its existing network, as well as provide risk management and other related services. A full range of high quality marine fuels, including low sulfur fuel oil, marine gas oil, and various lubricants will be initially available in Cartagena through the partnership…

The International Bunkering Industry Association (IBIA) says it has appointed Stephen Hoare as its new events & membership manager at its Southampton office. The role involves developing the association’s conferences, seminars and dinner as well as growing its global membership base. Welcoming Stephen Hoare’s appointment, IBIA Chief Executive Peter Hall said: 

“Stephen has a strong professional background in developing events and membership. He has great international experience and will help build our portfolio of professional events and membership around the world. IBIA adds that Stephen Hoare previously ran his own professional event management company and worked in events related roles for AIG – First Advice, MGM Assurance and HL Partnership.

Internal quality standard helps company meet global target of reducing claims to below 1% and set new industry benchmark for best practice. OW Bunker has  announced that it has reduced global claims1 on physical products to 0.9% for Q1 2014. This is down from an average of 1.6% in 2013. The company set a target of reducing global claims to below 1% when it introduced its own Global Quality Standard (GQS) at the end of 2012 to ensure the quality of products supplied by its physical operations on a global basis.

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) informs of the appointment of Jens Maul Jorgensen as its Chairman for 2014/15. He replaces Simon Neo who has completed his one year term of office. IBIA say that Jens Maul Jorgensen is Director of Bunkers for German dry bulk shipowner, Oldendorff and has 24 years of shipping industry experience, now leading a team of six purchasers and 14 inspectors worldwide servicing 566 vessels. Jens Maul Jorgensen added:

In a bid to improve bunker quality across the marine fuel supply chain, the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) informs that it has called on marine fuel suppliers to adopt the ISO 2010 specifications for bunkers. Despite having been introduced four years ago to improve bunker standards, it is estimated that only a quarter of bunker suppliers are currently supplying in accordance with the 2010 specifications. “ECO vessels are now entering the market equipped with engines which are more sensitive than vessels have ever had before.

In a bid to improve bunker quality across the marine fuel supply chain, the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has called on marine fuel suppliers to adopt the ISO 2010 specifications for bunkers. Despite having been introduced four years ago to improve bunker standards, it is estimated that only a quarter of bunker suppliers are currently supplying in accordance with the 2010 specifications. Addressing 1,127 attendees from the shipping community at the annual IBIA dinner at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel last night (Monday, February 17), IBIA Vice-Chairman Jens Maul Jorgensen said, “ECO vessels are now entering the market equipped with engines which are more sensitive than vessels have ever had before.
