Miami Shipyard RMK Merrill-Stevens to Hire 75 Staff

Miami shipyard RMK Merrill-Stevens says it is hiring 75 new employees over the next two months to staff its newly renovated North Yard and South Yard. The hiring campaign follows years full of updates after Rahmi M. Koç, a Turkish philanthropist, purchased the shipyard in 2013 while committing to restore the yard to its former glory. Carlyle Group Acquires LMC

Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group today announced the acquisition of Lauderdale Marine Center (LMC), the nation's largest yacht repair facility in terms of the number of large vessels it can haul and service. Equity for the transaction comes from Carlyle Realty Partners VII, a U.S. real estate investment fund. "In partnership with the outstanding management team and staff at LMC, we will build upon LMC's success through growth and continued innovation and superb customer service," said Thad Paul, Managing Director at The Carlyle Group. Located in Fort Lauderdale on the New River, visible from I-95 and close to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, LMC is a 50-acre facility consisting of a boatyard, marina and marine service center.

MPT to Break Ground on 25,000-sq.-ft. Expansion

For anyone keeping score, the south Florida maritime training and education infrastructure is enjoying rapid growth, driven largely by an outreach for lucrative offshore oil and gas training and education business. Case in point, today Maritime Professional Training (MPT)—the largest private maritime training school in the nation— said it selected Fort Lauderdale-based Gulf Building Corp. as the general contractor for the construction of its planned 25,000-square-foot facility expansion at its Fort Lauderdale campus.

Yachting Industry Future Debated at Monaco Yacht Show

Marine Industries Association of South Florida hosts Monaco discussions with international grouping on the future of the yachting industry. The Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) recently played host to twenty-six industry notables representing twelve industry associations interested in promoting professionalism within the yachting industry. The invite only luncheon, held at the Monaco Yacht Club, included international associations and dignitaries that have a vested interest in improving the economic opportunities of the global yachting market. An industry wide code of ethics, equitable value proposition, and enhanced product merchandising were all discussed in a vibrant exchange with an international perspective.

Lord Joins Resolve Marine Group

Martha Lord has joined Resolve Marine Group as Manager of Marketing and Communications in the company’s Fort Lauderdale, Fla. headquarters at 1850 S.E. 17th Street, Suite 204. Lord manages marketing, public relations and advertising for all divisions of the company, including Resolve Salvage and Fire, and Resolve Maritime Academy. Lord was formerly with the Ruden McClosky law firm in Fort Lauderdale, where she was Communications Manager for their statewide practice. Previously, she was Director of Association Services for the Marine Industries Association of South Florida.
