Carlyle Group Acquires LMC
Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group today announced the acquisition of Lauderdale Marine Center (LMC), the nation's largest yacht repair facility in terms of the number of large vessels it can haul and service. Equity for the transaction comes from Carlyle Realty Partners VII, a U.S. real estate investment fund. "In partnership with the outstanding management team and staff at LMC, we will build upon LMC's success through growth and continued innovation and superb customer service," said Thad Paul, Managing Director at The Carlyle Group. Located in Fort Lauderdale on the New River, visible from I-95 and close to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, LMC is a 50-acre facility consisting of a boatyard, marina and marine service center.
Atlantic Pacific Marine Opens Miami Branch
Marine engineering company Atlantic Pacific Marine (APM) informs it has opened a new site in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to meet an increasing workload and customer base following another year of success and growth. APM is headquartered in Cardiff, U.K., but operates globally, in the past year completing dry dock projects and refits in the Grand Bahamas, Australia, Germany, the U.K, Singapore, Italy and Miami for clients including Carnival Australia, Carnival UK, Princess Cruises, P&O, Wärtsilä, Crystal Cruises and Disney Cruise Line.
Seaboard Trinidad Opens
Seaboard Marine of Miami, Fla. announced the opening of Seaboard Trinidad to handle the interests of Seaboard Marine in Trinidad and Tobago. Trevor Chan Pak was appointed as general manager for the new company. The new office, located in the port of Point Lisas, is online with the network in Miami and will be dedicated exclusively to service Seaboard. Seaboard Marine currently offers the fastest transit time to Trinidad from Miami and is also the top carrier from Trinidad to Jamaica. Complementing this is service from Trinidad to/from Panama, Venezuela, Colombia and Curacao. Through either of these, customers have access to any service throughout the Seaboard Marine transportation network.
Cargo vessel, facility in Miami in violation of MTSA
MIAMI - The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port Miami today issued an order to suspend operations at a facility that was not in compliance with the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA). Coast Guard Marine Inspectors, acting on a report from a Coast Guard Auxiliary unit, discovered NRD Shipping and Marine of Miami had been operating for 10 days and had failed to notify the Coast Guard of its intention to conduct cargo operations with vessels subject to the MTSA and International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) regulations. During a routine patrol in the waters surrounding Miami, A Coast Guard Auxiliary unit working for Coast Guard Sector Miami located the Bolivian-flagged, cargo ship Miss Rutha, at an unregulated facility along the Miami River.
