BV, ThorCon Developing Molten Salt Nuclear Power Barge

Roxtec Secures Order for Britain’s $265m Polar Ship

Bureau Veritas Joins Global Industry Alliance

At a ceremony in Singapore Bureau Veritas formally joined the Global Industry Alliance (GIA). The GIA was officially inaugurated on June 29 by IMO Secretary General, Mr Kitack Lim. 17 companies have now signed up to join the GIA, which will work within a framework established by Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnership (GloMEEP) Project, a Global Environment Facility (GEF)-United Nations Development Program (UNDP) - IMO project. The GIA will support improving the energy efficiency of ships and shipping by collectively identifying and developing innovative solutions to address common barriers and promote the uptake of energy efficiency technologies and operational measures.

My Jobs: New App for Bureau Veritas Surveyors

The latest digital development launched by Bureau Veritas (BV) supports in-service surveyors with a new mobile app for class and statutory surveys. My Jobs is a mobile application developed by the Marine & Offshore division of BV to facilitate the survey process from end to end. BV’s ships in service surveyors are now able to access up to date information on mobile devices anytime and anywhere. Over 20 percent of BV surveyors are now using the My Jobs mobile app to carry out live reporting on the spot – and usage is growing.

BV & Ship-to-Ship LNG Bunkering

Bureau Veritas is supporting the adoption of clean fuel LNG through the classification of both vessels in the world’s first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation between two independent ocean-going vessels. On September 3 2016, Terntank Rederi’s M/T Ternsund bunkered LNG from Coral Energy, a Dutch small scale LNG vessel owned by Antony Veder and chartered by Skangas. The operation was carried out at the entrance to the port of Gothenburg. The 15,000 dwt Ternsund is the world’s first LNG-fuelled newbuilding oil/chemical tanker. It was built under BV class at Avic Dingheng, China and delivered to Terntank at the end of June 2016. Coral Energy, which has a capacity of 15,600 m3, is also built to BV class and was delivered in 2013.

BV Classes First LNG-fuel Oil/Chemical Tanker

Leading international classification society Bureau Veritas has classed the first LNG-fuelled newbuilding oil/chemical tanker, the 15,000 dwt Ternsund, built under BV class at Avic Dingheng, China and delivered to Denmark’s Terntank Rederi at the end of June 2016. The new vessel is the result of close co-operation between Terntank, Avic and Bureau Veritas. The Ternsund is the first of a series of four ships all equipped with the Wärtsilä RT-flex50-D dual-fuel low-speed engine. This is the first installation of such engine and it was done under BV class. In early August the vessel became the first ever ship to take on LNG as bunker fuel in the port of Rotterdam, qualifying for an LNG bunkering premium equal to a ten per cent reduction in port dues.

Brown Named Bureau Veritas Communications Director

Nick Brown has been appointed Bureau Veritas’ new Communications Director, Marine & Offshore Division, the classification society announced. Brown will take up the post from November 2, 2016, replacing Philippe Boisson, who will retire after more than 25 years in the role. Brown joins Bureau Veritas from Lloyd’s Register where he has spent the last nine years, most recently as Head of Brand & External Affairs, Marine & Offshore. He has 25 years of shipping industry experience, starting as a commercial trainee with the Wallem Group in Hong Kong.

BV launches My VeriSTAR Mobile Application

Leading international classification society Bureau Veritas has developed a one-stop- shop mobile application which will allow marine professionals to easily perform daily class and statutory actions through a user-friendly interface. With My VeriSTAR, shipowners and managers will be able to monitor their fleet, plan their surveys and stay informed, anytime and anywhere. Bureau Veritas has acquired international consultancy TMC Marine Ltd. TMC has provided pre- and post-casualty advice and support to the marine industry since 1979. The business focuses on marine claims and accident investigations, salvage and wreck removal consultancy and marine expert witness services for a client base that spans P&I clubs, law firms, marine insurers, salvage companies and ship owners. Headquartered in London, TMC has a network of offices in the U.S., China, Singapore and Australia. It employs more than 50 people and generated revenues of €8.5 million in 2015. BV Classes Mega Asphalt Carrier

Classification society Bureau Veritas is classing the 37,000 dwt asphalt carrier Asphalt Splendor, recently delivered to U.S.-based Sargeant Marine. The vessel was built at Avic Dingheng, China and is one of a series of two designed by Chinese design institute SDARI in cooperation with Sargeant. Bureau Veritas Issues ISPO Certificate to Port of Cork

Classification society Bureau Veritas has issued its first certificate under the ISPO (International Standard for Maritime Pilot Organizations) standard of best practice for pilots and pilot organizations to the Pilotage Authority, Port of Cork, Ireland. The ISPO certification covers the Pilotage services and Vessel Traffic Management System. The ISPO is an accessible industry specific standard, managed by a group of users, that improves safety and quality and provides transparency to shipowners and stakeholders on pilotage standards.

BV Extends Offshore Services with APSYS Partnership

Classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) informs it has extended the range of reliability solutions it provides for the global offshore industry through a partnership with aerospace risk management firm APSYS. Bureau Veritas (BV) is to class two projects for gas-fuelled vessels to be built for Canadian owners in Turkish shipyards. British Columbia-based Seaspan Ferries has chosen BV class for two hybrid LNG/diesel/battery-powered ro-ro cargo ferries which will be built at the Sedef yard in Turkey. Quebec-based Transport Desgagnes, meanwhile, has chosen BV class for two 14,000 dwt gas-fuelled asphalt/product tankers to be built at Besiktas. Bureau Veritas Selects New Offshore Lead

Bureau Veritas has appointed Matthieu de Tugny as Senior Vice President in charge of offshore activities within the marine and offshore operating group. He is tasked with driving forward Bureau Veritas Group initiatives in the oil and gas offshore market and enhancing Bureau Veritas’ technical leadership and recognition in this market. Matthieu de Tugny graduated from the Ecole Nationale de la Marine Marchande, France and from the Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité, France as an engineer. He started his career at Bureau Veritas in 1994 in the Electricity and Automation Section.

Bureau Veritas Launches New Notation for Underwater Noise

Bureau Veritas Classed Fleet Passes 100 mi Gross Tons

Strong growth in the numbers of ships being transferred into BV class has pushed the Bureau Veritas classed fleet past the 100 million gross tonnes milestone. At the end of the first half of 2014 Bureau Veritas classed 10,700 ships totalling over 100 million gross tonnes. Philippe Donche-Gay, Executive Vice President and Head of Bureau Veritas's Marine & Offshore Division says, "Our classed fleet has doubled in size over the last eight years and it is gratifying that the growth is coming from clients who experience and recognise both our technical leadership and our responsiveness.
