A.P.M Moeller-Maersk (Maersk) has informed the search for the missing seafarer who fell overboard from the Maersk Patras on May 19, 2019, has been suspended.“It is with regret we have received the news that the search and rescue operation was unsuccessful and we must conclude that we have lost our colleague. It is a tragic situation for the family and we have offered them our full support. My deepest condolences and thoughts go to them,” says Søren Toft, COO of A.P. Wärtsilä will support the 1100 Class High Endurance Multitask Vessels operated by the Canadian Coast Guard, to renew their current propulsion generators. These vessels serve for buoy tending, search and rescue and icebreaking in each of the three Region of the Canadian Coast Guard. The new, more modern propulsion generators will contribute to the vessel's reliability for many years to come. Furthermore, the standards of engineering and fuel consumption for the new engines will lead to reduced operational costs and lower emissions.

The Irish Coast Guard coordinated a successful Marine Search and Rescue demonstration on Saturday 16th July. The exercise in Moville Co Donegal involved some of Ireland’s principal Search and Rescue resources. Participants included Donegal based volunteer Coast Guard units, the Sligo based Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter, Naval ship LÉ Orla,  Air Corps Casa, RNLI’s new Shannon Class All Weather Lifeboat, Bord Iascaigh Mhara, UK Maritime Coastguard Agency, Irish Water Safety, Mountain Rescue Ireland and the Civil Defence. The event included a series of water based safety demonstrations: “Prevention and adherence to basic safety is the key element in minimising loss of life at sea and on our waterways”, concluded SARs Manager Gerard O’Flynn.

The Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation, in conjunction with Seaspan, announced today a multi-year, multimillion dollar investment in the future of British Columbia’s marine industrial sector. The commitment totals $2.9 million and includes a three-year, $900,000 donation by the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation to three institutional trades training programs in Canada. This donation has been given in support of the Industrial and Regional Benefits Policy program under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).

Both sides of the Taiwan Strait carried out joint marine search and rescue on August 7. It is the third large-scale cross-strait joint search-and-rescue drill since the direct shipping links between the two sides of the Strait was officially launched in 2008. The drill was jointly-held by China Maritime Search and Rescue Center (CMSRC), Chinese Rescue Association, Fuzhou Municipal government, Matsu Lienchiang county government and the relevant search and rescue departments from both sides of the Strait. The theme of the drill is “launch joint maritime emergency response and build peace Strait”. This drill focused on mass evacuation after marine incident, which included 8 sectors such as organizing and presenting rescue force and so on.

U.K. independent marine safety equipment supplier, Ocean Safety, will be showing its range of torches from Exposure Marine at Seawork for the first time. Exposure’s torches are already being used by organizations like the Norwegian Sea Rescue Association (NSRA), proving their fitness for the scrutiny of commercial maritime professionals visiting Seawork. Exposure Marine initially developed torches for the professional mountain bike market, and this led them to produce torches which are incredibly powerful, superlight and corrosion resistant, and therefore ideal for marine conditions.

Marine Rescue Port Hacking’s new $270,000 offshore rescue vessel commissioned at the unit’s new home base at the Hungry Point Reserve, Cronulla. Emergency Services Minister Michael Gallacher and Federal Member for Cook Scott Morrison joinrf  the MRNSW Board, Commissioner Stacey Tannos and volunteers from the Port Hacking unit for the commissioning ceremony for Port Hacking 30. Commissioner Tannos said the 8.5 metre Kevlacat was able to travel up to 15 nautical miles offshore, making it a valuable addition to marine search and rescue resources in Greater Sydney.

Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) advises union of immediate closure of Kitsilano Search & Rescue (SAR) Station in Vancouver, BC. "I can't understand why the Conservative government is doing everything in its power to put Canadians at risk," said Christine Collins , National President of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees in response to a phone call from the Canadian Coast Guard. The closure comes as part of a long line of attacks on CCG's ability to do effective search and rescue. To date, the CCG has closed the Marine search and rescue station in St. John's, NL which monitored Canada's longest coastline and now the Search and Rescue Station at Kitsilano, BC which is the busiest port in Canada.

CML Microcircuits has announced the launch of the new cutting-edge Marine AIS Search and Rescue Transmitter (SART) processor, the CMX7045. The CMX7045 is a highly integrated and flexible baseband processor fulfilling the needs of an AIS-SART and meeting IEC 61097-14 requirements. In addition to providing the core AIS-SART formatted data functionality, the CMX7045 incorporates a number of auxiliary operations that assist in the overall system implementation and therefore reduce component count and cost.

Ten years ago, a RoRo passenger service called Sealink, commenced in the Bahamas — operating from Nassau to port of Governor's Harbor on the adjacent island of Eleuthera. The vessel that performed this service was an aging 14-knot Greek ferry, which established a solid market within the RoRo sector. Despite its healthy growth spurt, the venture ceased in 1993 resulting from rising repair costs and maintenance, specifically in the machinery department, as some engine parts had since been discontinued. Then a group of local businessmen purchased an Australian RoPax catamaran to re-enter the Eleuthera trade. This vessel, which incidentally is also named Sealink, is from the Sea Transport Solutions (STS) design studio in Queensland, Australia.
