Go east, young man, go east: Scaniaâs market reach grows with a key workboat contract. The reasons why are easy enough to see. When Scania announced its recent deal with Potomac Riverboat Company, part of the Entertainment Cruises family, to deliver eight, EPA Tier 3, 500 HP DI 13-liter engines in 2017 to power its high-speed, low-wake water taxis in Washington, DC, it marked the beginning of what is so far a good year for the San Antonio-based engine manufacturer. The 88-foot vessels will carry 149 passengers and will be built by Louisiana-based Metal Shark, to specifications from BMT Designers and Planners. The deal not only represents a significant number of individual engines, but more importantly for Scania, it cements the firmâs toehold in the red hot domestic ferry sector.

Horizon Shipbuilding is in the process of installing the first production EPA Tier 4 certified units of its 3516E EPA CAT Marine engines, on a pair of tugs it is building for McAllister Towing & Transportation Co., Inc. Svitzer Bags 30-year Towing Deal in Costa Rica
Svitzer has entered a 30-year terminal towage contract to provide marine services for the new APMT Moin Container Terminal in Costa Rica, starting from the third quarter of 2017. In addition to supplying marine service, Svitzer will provide three 70TBP ASD tugs (two with FiFi 1), one pilot vessel and a maintenance barge for the Moin Container Terminal. Svitzer will also invest in local crew to train pilots and tug masters in its new training center in the Bahamas for the Moin Container Terminal. âThe agreement with APMT was the result of a lengthy process where Svitzer assisted in all phases of the marine solution including simulations of the towage operations, determining size and layout of the turning basin and defining the optimal specifications of the tugboats.
Alphatron Marine VSAT Systems for 11 Workboats
Alphatron Marine has signed a lease contract with Seacontractors for no less than 11 vessels to provide satellite hardware and data solution packages. Alphatron Marineâs VSAT system will be installed alongside the existing IT infrastructure on nine Seacontractors B-Class workboats and two A-Class workboats, consisting of Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) and Multicats, mainly operating in Western Europe and the Middle East. Alphatron Marineâs solution will include an 80cm VSAT system, 19-inch rack, access points, switching, routing, UPS, modem and VoIP gateway.
Spliethoff Chooses Imtech for VSAT Network
Spliethoff Group, one of the largest ship management companies in the Netherlands, has awarded Imtech Marine a three-year extension contract for the supply of a broad-ranging Ship to Shore Communications service on the global VSAT network of Radio Holland. Radio Holland is Imtech Marineâs solution brand for Nav/Com and maintenance. Amsterdam-based Spliethoff Bevrachtingskantoor BV and Radio Holland have worked together for decades and 27 vessels are already connected. Following the agreement made on February 17th, a further 22 vessels will be added.
