101 Crowley Vessels Honored with Environmental Awards in Recognition of 984 Combined Years of Safe Operations. More than 100 Crowley Maritime Corporation-owned and -operated vessels were honored with Certificates of Environmental Achievement for years of safe operations during the recent 12th-annual Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) awards ceremony, held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington D.C. Each of Crowley’s honored vessels received the certificates for having worked at least two consecutive years without an environmental incident.

Seventy-five Crowley Maritime Corporation vessels have received the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA)’s annual Jones F. Devlin Awards in recognition of their outstanding safety records in 2013, honors given during a luncheon held last week in New Orleans, La. Each year the CSA grants Devlin Award certificates to manned merchant vessels that have operated for two or more years without incurring a Lost Time Injury (LTI), specifically highlighting the skills and dedication of the crewmembers responsible for safe vessel operations.

During the tenth-annual Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) awards ceremony held in Washington, D.C., this week, Crowley Maritime Corporation was awarded 100 Certificates of Environmental Achievement for 2013 – more than any other company in the running. The certificates were awarded to Crowley-owned and operated vessels for having worked at least two consecutive years without an environmental incident. Additionally, Crowley was also presented with a membership award in recognition of five years of support to the CSA.

Captain Robert M. Cusick Jr., a merchant marine officer who survived the wreck of the SS Marine Electric and then helped lead a major reform of US maritime safety standards, died peacefully in his sleep in New Hampshire on Thursday, September 12, 2013, according to Carol Cusick, his daughter. Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Crowley Maritime Corporation and Richard du Moulin, president of Marine Transport Corporation (MTC), jointly announced that with the successful integration of MTC into Crowley, du Moulin will be resigning from MTC to pursue other business interests. Crowley acquired Weehawken, N.J.-based MTC in February 2001. Mark Filanowski, senior vice president and chief financial officer of MTC, will also be leaving the company. Both resignations will take effect April 1, 2002. du Moulin had been Chairman of MTC since 1989 when he and Filanowski, utilizing their company Intrepid Shipping, acquired what was then NASDAQ-listed Marine Transport Lines, Inc. (MTL).

Three Vericor Power Systems' TF50 marine aeroderivative gas turbines have been selected to power the 118 Wallypower high-speed yacht being built by Intermarine Shipyard, Sarzana, Italy for Wally Yacht. This is Wally Yacht's first foray into high-speed power yachts, and the company's initial application of gas turbines. Wally Yacht, based in Monte Carlo, Monaco, is a world-renowned designer of high-speed sailing and power yachts. The 118-ft. yacht will feature three TF50 gas turbines in a Combined Diesel Or Gas (CODOG) turbine configuration. Two TF50s will be used as side or "wing" engines, with one small auxiliary diesel engine connected to each wing engine. The diesels will provide for very slow maneuvering only.

Crowley Maritime's Vessel Management Services, Inc., will christen the first of four Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels this year in New Orleans on Thursday, April 25. The vessels to be christened are the 9,280-hp tug Sea Reliance and the 155,000-barrel barge 550-1. Intrepid Ship Management, a subsidiary of Marine Transport Lines, will charter the Halter Marine-built ATB from Vessel Management Services and operate it. Marine Transport is a Crowley subsidiary and part of its Contract services segment. "We are looking forward to christening and putting these exceptional new vessels into service for our customer," said Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime.

At ceremonies held on the Riverwalk at the New Orleans Hilton, Christine Sande Crowley, wife of Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime, christened the Sea Reliance, and her mother, Linda Engle Sande, christened barge 550-1. Intrepid Ship Management, a subsidiary of Marine Transport Lines, will charter the Halter Marine-built ATB from Vessel Management Services and operate it. Marine Transport is a Crowley subsidiary and part of its contract services segment.

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced today that Capt. Bill Taylor has been promoted to vice president of bulk petroleum and chemical transportation and will manage the commercial activities of the company's petroleum tankers and barges. He will remain domiciled in Jacksonville and report to Rocky Smith, senior vice president and general manager of petroleum services. The vessel is intended to operate as a tug/barge unit in conjunction with the 155,000-barrel tank barge 550-3. Construction engineering for the barge was also accomplished by Schuller & Allan LLC. The connection device is an Intercon Coupling system. Earlier this year, Vessel Management Services, Inc. christened the first of four Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels that the company took in 2002, the 9,280 hp-tug Sea Reliance and 155,000-barrel barge 550-1, built by Halter Marine. At just after 0100hrs EDT July 22nd, 2002 the M/V Patriot, a 710-ft., 35,000-ton tanker was in the Florida Straits off West Palm Beach, having sailed from New York bound for Texas, when alarms on the bridge informed the crew that they had a fire in the engine room. The general alarm was sounded as the crew dressed and made their way through smoke and heat to muster forward of the vessel's accommodation structure. With all hands accounted for, the vessel's Master, realized that the fire was too large for his crew to fight. The crew, having been drilled for just such an event, began to seal all vents and engine room access to enable the ships CO2 system to work effectively in combating the fire.

Afterwards, guests attended a reception and celebratory luncheon at The Stone Harbor Resort. Over 100 people braved the cold, rain and snow to attend the christening ceremony, which has become a tradition in the maritime industry as new vessels enter service.
