RHL Hamburger Lloyd Selects KVH Broadband Service

Compact and rugged, KVH’s TracPhone V7-IP Ku-band VSAT system was chosen to meet growing bandwidth usage and Internet demand onboard the RHL Hamburger Lloyd tankers.

To meet growing bandwidth usage and Internet demand onboard its tanker fleet, RHL Hamburger Lloyd Tanker GmbH & Co. KG, of Hamburg, Germany, an international shipping company known for managing sophisticated, innovative tankers, has chosen KVH Industries, Inc., for its mini-VSAT Broadband satellite communications solution. Twelve oil and chemical tankers will be outfitted with KVH’s TracPhone V7-IP satellite antenna systems in the next month, with a potential for 16 additional container vessels to receive KVH systems.

Major Shipping Company Upgrades to Iridium Pilot

Iridium Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:IRDM) announces that German shipping company Reederei Werner Bockstiegel has selected Iridium Pilot(TM) to upgrade its shipping fleet with broadband communications. Globecomm Maritime, a long-standing Iridium partner, is offering Iridium Pilot as part of an upgraded "Telaurus se@COMM" communications package, and will manage the installation fleet-wide. "We're seeing a rapidly growing appetite among maritime customers to migrate from out-dated narrowband services to satellite broadband communications solutions," said Greg Ewert, executive vice president of global distribution channels at Iridium. "We are proud to expand our service to Reederei Werner Bockstiegel through our innovative partner Globecomm Maritime.

SEVSAT for Entire Varada Marine OSV Fleet

Ship Equip announced a contract with Varada Marine to install its SEVSAT (Ship Equip VSAT) maritime broadband solution on the company’s entire fleet of Offshore Supply Vessels. Varada Marine, a company with its head office in Kristiansand, Norway, has announced an extensive new building program at ABG Shipyard Ltd in India. Deliveries of SEVSAT systems will commence in step with the new building program, with the first system already delivered to the yard.

Triton Diving Uses Hughes Maritime Broadband

Triton Diving Services, LLC is keeping its crews safer and delivering more proficient diving services to offshore customers thanks to the Hughes Maritime Broadband solution from Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES). Louisiana-based Triton provides a host of diving services to oil companies, derrick barges, government, and commercial vessels, and other businesses operating in the Gulf of Mexico. The company is outfitting its fleet of vessels with high-speed Internet, data, VoIP, and video capabilities to provide critical ship-to-shore and diver-to-ship communications. Triton has been active in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill cleanup.
